COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A smooth, toasty brown ale, Best Brown Ale is a mainstay in our fall & winter lineup. With hints of caramel and cocoa, the malt body has the depth to stand up to cool weather, but does not come across as heavy. This balancing act is aided by the generous use of American hops.

Bottled. A murky orange-brown beer with a fast disappearing orange head. The aroma is sweet fruity combined with lighter notes of alcohol and prunes. The flavor is sweet malty with strong notes of fruit, leading to a dry bitter finish. The body is thin.

Dry, sort of chalky taste and mouthfeel. Certainly not a bad beer, it’s completely drinkable, but pretty boring.

Enjoyed via 12 oz bottle. Pours a deep brown (as one might expect from a Brown Ale). Nose is slight, if any. Initially, the taste is smooth, a result of perfect bottle conditioning. Unfortunately, this example was ruined for me by the overly sweet finish. What was initially pleasing quickly became cloying. Overall, not terrible, but there are far better examples of the style.

12-oz. Pours a murky and very dark brown with a billowing, fluffy off-white head. Somewhat soapy nose, soft cookie dough and caramel notes in there as well. Somewhat watery and fairly light body, a bit slippery, very soft carb. Earth, caramel, and soap on the mid-palate. Mild finish.

In the bottle from HyVee CB. Pours dark brown with a thick beige head that has dark brown chunks floating on top of it. Malted chocolate aroma is mild. The flavor has a bit of caramel and plenty of malt chocolate. Some toffee in there to boot. This smooth palate is drinkable, but not likely as good as it should be considering the high standards of Bells. Avery Ellie’s Brown is much better.

Bottle, flavor was malty with some roasted malts and toffee. Somewhat watery, overall I wasn’t impressed.

Not a fan of the aroma. Some coffee, woody, earthy and something else I can’t put my finger on. Nice pour. I like the brown, hazy appearance - more to my expectation in a good brown. Minimal tan head with moderate lacing. This beer has a smoke and oak flavors that is nice. Medium bitterness at end. A medium bodied beer, with typical carbonation. Not a bad brown at all. The aroma holds this one back for me.

Dry, bready malt aroma matches the malty body. A bit thin and bit uninteresting. Not diggin on it.
