DocHop (178), College Park, Maryland, USA May 5, 2008 Pours a beautiful copper brown with a good sized, full khaki head. The aroma is very malty, a lot of caramel, light roastiness, and some ripe, lightly spiced fruit. Flavor Is sweet at first, even with a few hints of cherries along with those caramel malts. There is a little roasted flavor that mixes in with a peppery hop taste that finishes dry and a little awkwardly.
kosko20 (32), Bemidji, Minnesota, USA Jul 26, 2008 Bottle pour, aroma is nutty and malty. Appearance: Dark red brown with a thick tan head. Flavor is toasty and malty but not much to it. Good mouthfeel, smooth and a really good amount of carbonation (not too much, not too little). Overall a good beer, but nothing spectacular. timsilvia32 (116), born in Michigan, North Carolina, USA Jul 12, 2008 Descent brown pour, light head. Some roasted nut, malt and slight toffee. It is smooth, but a little boring. Good mouth feel, enough carbonation. Pretty dry finish, well balanced. Actually not one of my favorite Bell’s, they usually strive for a little different. esjaygee (688), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA Jul 7, 2008 Cloudy reddish brown with a slowly dissipating lacy beige head. Nutty aroma mixed in with some sweet and toasted malts, caramel and toffee. Taste of caramel, nuts, roasted malts with some mild hops on the finish Body is smooth, creamy and thick and balanced. Best Brown Ale is a fitting name since it’s one of the best Brown Ales I’ve had. MaltDawg (224), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jul 4, 2008 Off taps at Capital Ale House. Dark amber brown with small fluffy white head. Slight roast and carmel malt aroma.
Medium full creamy body with light carbonation. Rich roasty rather sweet with touch of fruityness. Finish is fairly sweet with a bit of residual earthy hop bitterness. Pushing a stout...and very tasty. Beerded_one (1551), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 26, 2008 Bottle. Pours a hazy brown with a light tan head. Aroma of toasted caramel malts with notes of brown sugar and nuts. Flavor is roasty with caramel, nuts, grain and a hint of chocolate with a light hop bitterness medium body with a dry finish. Decent brew.
