COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A smooth, toasty brown ale, Best Brown Ale is a mainstay in our fall & winter lineup. With hints of caramel and cocoa, the malt body has the depth to stand up to cool weather, but does not come across as heavy. This balancing act is aided by the generous use of American hops.

Bottle. Pours a light, well, brown, with a fair amount of yeast sediment and head. Nice, malty aroma, with strong notes of nuts and caramel. The flavor has similar notes, with some added hints of coffee and fruit, and a touch of hops. "Solid" comes to mind when describing this beer - itís very well-made and a great example of the style, but not particularly interesting.

This brown ale is dark brown in color with hues of garnet red and a dense, cream-colored head. The body looks dense, as well, with carbonation gravitating slowly together, and rising even more slowly to the surface. It has a pleasant, well-balanced bouquet of brown malt aromas and a touch of cocoa. As simple as the beer seems to me, it still stands out, humbly. That touch of cocoa leads you in from nose to mouth, with the light, but capable, body welcoming you easily. The flavor palate, again, is just as easy and well-balanced as in the aroma, and it maintains its uniqueness there as well. Flavors of a soft, almost English-style brown ale couple up with cocoa and some almost fruity American hops to offer a really delectable experience in the mouth. This is my kind of brown ale. It has my stamp of approval. The finish is soft with clean, slightly roasted but mostly sweet malts, and some cocoa and hops are left behind on your lips that really make it hard to resist immediately taking another drink. Bellís has justified themselves in naming this beer.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass. A: Pours a dark chestnut color. The head is a rough-looking one-finger heavy cream shade. Itís texture is poor but its retention is good. Small amounts of lacing are left behind. S: This is very toasted, and even slightly roasted. Thereís actually some progression to the aroma - the first whiff is pure toasted nuts, then turns into something mineral and earthy, developing a touch of brown sugar sweetness after a while. The earthiness isnít to my liking, otherwise the aroma is fine. T: Thereís a slight kiss of fruitiness to start. Afterwards, this turns into mostly a toasted-nuts-and-mineral-water affair. A slight hop finish actually brings more acid than bitterness or flavor. Having said that, itís still reasonably balanced, if a touch too bitter. M: This one is fairly dry and even crisp. On the other hand, it has a slight heaviness to it making it not quite as drinkable as it could be. Carbonation is middling, typical of the style. O: A fairly typical brown ale: thereís nothing wrong with it at all, itís just not very impressive or inspiring to drink. Wouldnít buy it again, most likely.

Pours a nice dark brown with red hues. Aroma of roasted malts, toffee, and caramel. Tatse is very well balanced of roasted malt, nuts, toffee, cocoa and caramel, offset perfectly with hops. Great brown ale.

Aroma of hazelnut and dusty mocha. Yes, there is a sugary malt sweetness, but itís balanced by the dry flavors. Touch of toffee. Color is a rich brick red, hazy and lot of carbonation. There are a lot of small floaties in there. The first taste is a sugary sweetness. Followed shortly thereafter by a dry, dusty nutty mocha. Definitely a sweet flavor though. Feels dry and powdery. Absolute must to let it warm up a bit to let the dry flavors match the sweet ones. Pleasant enough in the right conditions.
