Ughsmash (2613), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA May 1, 2008 Many thanks to BarrelAged for bringing this to the Flossmoor Pre-DLD party (and to Dan and Steve for bottles)! Poured transparent coppery-amber with a short cap of white head. The aroma was very juicy with pears, grapefruit, and pine well represented.. sweet, very fragrant, and dangerously approachable. The flavor was also strong with juicy pineapple, grapefruit, and a little bubblegum.. finished with more pine and citrus bitterness.. stuck around for quite a while after the drink. Huge, but somehow well-balanced on the palate.. warm and juicy. Fantastic!
beerguy101 (3259), Newark, California, USA May 16, 2008 Tasted at the May Northern California Beer Tasting. (Batch # 8369). This imperial IPA poured a deep golden amber color from a 12oz bottle. Medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is piney and grapefruity hops. A medium bodied double IPA. The malts are caramel and sweet. The hops are piney and grapefruity. Nice balance. Sorta tastes like a west coast IPA. Lots of hops not a lot of hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is bitter.
Marsiblursi (1176), Göteborg, Sweden May 16, 2008 (Bottle, thanks to Puddintane and his lackeys) Pours amber with a small off-white head. The aroma is fantastically fruity and hoppy with tones of gooseberries, black currant, kiwi, pears, lychee, ripe mango, citrus like lime, tangerine and grapefruit, light floral/rose like and mild piney. Good malt backdrop of clean toast and mild caramel. Some minty alcohol. The flavour is hoppy up front with resiny pine and juicy citrus alongside notes of light notes of fruits and malt. The mouthfeel is quite soft with a harsh and peppery finish. Light to medium sweet. Lingering full afterbitterness with tones of citrus and citrus peel. Medium to full bodied. This is one of many reasons why we like Bell’s and why we loooove IIPA. AgentSteve (475), Livermore, California, USA May 15, 2008 Vewry pine and grass nose and flavor. The malt barely pokes through. Hot, lasting finish. No hiding the %! wetherel (802), Carlsbad, California, USA May 15, 2008 WeeHeavy generously opened this bottle. Thanks Jon. This beer is fantastic. Very Green Flash like hop and malt character. Great west coast hop aroma, and grapefruit bitterness. Strong malty backbone with lots of caramelization. Yellow amber color with big fluffy head. Smooth creamy mouthfeel. riversideAK (1332), Shoreline, Washington, USA May 15, 2008 Bottle from hopdog. Thanks for hooking it up man! Golden red colored brew with a nice head and thick sticky lacing. Well to start, this one smells like a big bag of weed. Also notes of sweat socks and cat pee. Straight up dank aroma. The flavor continues the theme with a lot more dank bitterness. Some black pepper makes an appearance too. Pleasant light sweetness helps "balance", but this one of pretty hop heavy. Some light sweet fruit like mangos or melons. Leafy, earthy hops round out the back end of the flavor profile. Nice and bitter with lots of lingering resins. My only complaint is that is is a little too hot. All in all though, a fantastic IIPA. Far better than Hopslam IMO.
