3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 BMan1113VR (6444) - Los Angeles, USA - OCT 19, 2008
UPDATED: MAR 9, 2009 Bottle thanks to zathrus13. Shared with the Dallas crew at bu11zeye’s place. Beer has more attitude than hops...way more...to bad that’s not always a good thing. Pours with a largish white head (would hope so given the name), with a clear amber body. Great lacing and decent retention. Aroma of floral and spicy hops with a very sweet note and a bit of booziness. Taste is fruity with darkish malts, boozy with a very bland and unbalanced citrus hop profile. Syrupy mouthfeel. Seems like the brewer just threw everything randomly into the pot.

31st May 2009 Hazy amber beer. Soft and slightly syrupy palate. Creamy but bitter hops with a brief pineapple sweet note. Quite a bit of aniseedy alcohol comes to the fore in the finish.

Received in trade from mcallister, thank you for the opportunity.
Pours a crystal clear orange/amber color with a large fluffy white head that won’t quit, and laces most of the way down the glass. Aroma is Hoppy as would be expected. Grainy, citrusy, resinous, orangey, grassy hops. Taste is wonderfully the same with a bit of caramel maltiness hidden deep underneath. Medium full body with ample carbonation. Great Brew with the alcohol well hidden. If this is what they are brewing out west, I’ve got to try some more. Great Stuff!

If I’d gotten the chance to try this beer when it first came out, it might have been a 5. Whoever brought this to our post EBF tasting is awesome. Even 2 years after bottling this beer has the type of audacious hop flavors you love in a good IPA and pretty much never see east of Kalamazoo. Pine resin, grapefruit rind and pithy still lurking against a caramel malt backbone. Fantastic stuff, one of the best Bells beer I’ve had the pleasure of trying.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 HonkeyBra (2280) - Lemont, Illinois, USA - JUL 27, 2010
Sampled at RBSG Grand Tasting. Orange pour with white head. Aroma of powdered sugar, light oxidation, and hops. Hops are still here in the flavor, but damn it’s obvious they aren’t as good as they were when this beer was fresh. Really wish I could try this fresh. Right now it tastes like a bitter orange doughnut.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 koopa (335) - , New Jersey, USA - MAY 26, 2010
Appearance: Pours a dark orange to brownish crimson with a nice 1.5 finger khaki crown that shows good retention and loads of lace!
Smell: HOP BOMB! Wow this one is the definitive edge btw super hoppy double ipa and a barleywine in my humble opinion. Tiny soap note as well.
Taste: Nice malt that isn’t too sweet and doesn’t come off very caramel like. Loads of herbal hops with a good zing of bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Just right...fairly crisp due to good carbonation, medium bodied, with a lush mouthfeel from the crown.
Drinkability: This one has a high abv but you wouldn’t notice by the flavor profile because it has no alcohol presence at all!

Another awesome bottle thanks to FlandersNed. From 04/2008 batch K8369. Pours a clear copper color with a medium off-white head. A sweet malty nose; caramel and loads of malts, rich citrus hops. The flavor has developed into a sweet barley wine; loads of malts, herbal hops, no bitterness, light fruit, honey. Very nice but quite different than it would have been two years ago I presume.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Jblauvs (1265) - Dover, New Hampshire, USA - FEB 23, 2010
Golden pour with a fluffy white head. Aroma is sweet grapefruit hops with a plethora of sweet caramel malt as well. A touch of booze. Flavor is bursting with hops bitterness, as well as sweet boozey maltiness. Toffee, Pine, Caramel, Citrus. Very Balanced but also Big, this is the Kind of DIPA I can get behind.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Sickboy282 (1109) - San Diego, California, USA - JAN 2, 2010
bottle- Pours a cloudy orange hue, due to the fact that I got the end of the bottle. Head is white and foamy, but fades fast. Aromas of resin, citrus, and a touch of bread. Mouth feel is medium bodied with a creamy/slick feel as it goes down with just the right amount of bitterness to match the malt. Flavors of pine, citrus, with a sweetness that is unlike a true SD IPA. Still a wonderful brew that I wish was available here in San Diego.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 5000 (4104) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - DEC 21, 2009
Bottle:   Gusher, otherwise pale caramel, thick, large foamy off-white head, very sticky lacing.   Strong resiny nose, pine, spruce tips, hops, and a bit of citrus peel.   Semi-sweet citrus peel bitterness on the tongue.
Warming, very warming.   Seems a little astringent.   Malty, but not heavy or sweet enough to balance it out.   Doesn’t linger too long which is nice.   Moderate to full body and mouthfeel.   Solid IIPA, but
not as heavy or thick as I prefer.   Very warming too.   Its a sipper!
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 alexsdad06 (2344) - Ohio, USA - DEC 19, 2009
12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear, orange amber body topped by a medium white head. The aroma grabs my attention immediately. Big nose reminds me of some of San Diego’s finest. Big sweet caramel malt, very fruity, with hints of pine and good bitterness. The flavor is big all around with this beer. The opening is fairly sweet caramel malt goodness along the heavy dose of hops. I was amazed at the huge bitterness that lingers. Some grassiness and a touch of pine. Bittersweet finish with a lasting lemongrass aftertaste. Medium-full body with medium carbonation. A very nice Double IPA, how does it compare to Hopslam. Everything about this beer says BIG, but the different sensations wok well together
