COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black Note blends the complex aromatics of Expedition Stout with the velvety smooth texture of Double Cream Stout. The combination is aged in freshly retired oak bourbon barrels for months. The result is a malty harmony of dark chocolate, espresso and dried fruit notes, all buoyed by the warmth and fragrance of the bourbon barrel. Aimed squarely at the stout aficionados, Black Note makes a grand statement about the art of the dark.

Bottle. Dark cola with reddish tints on the edges and no head. Aroma is oak, vanilla, butter and syrup. Taste adds tons of roasted malt, burnt sugar and toffee. Booze is present but not overwhelming. Mouthfeel is a little thin but not insubstantial. Wonderful.

Bourbon vanilla, coconut, and wood aromas. Sticky sweet aroma. Lighter in body; tastey chocolate roasty character with vanilla, coconut, and wood over-tones. Black in color with tan head. Notes: GABF ’13

Bottle thanks to mashmaster, thank you sir! Pours black with a small beige head. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, syrup, faint coffee, awesome! Oh my word. Lots of bitter chocolate, sweet bourbon and espresso flavours make for one heck of a beer.

2014 Bottle from BlowOffTube, thanks for the opportunity! Solid black color with a quickly fleeting head. Chocolate, roast, molasses, vanilla, wood, light dark fruit, there’s lots going on here and its all good. Rich sweet silky creamy thick body with light carbonation. Damn that’s good, wish I had more!

Deep, full, black color with medium colored tan head that held well, especially for a barrel aged stout. Great legs, medium collar, good wisps. Aroma is sweet bourbon, deep malt that has a molasses note to it. Taste is much like the aroma: sweet dark caramel up front, bourbon behind that, a hint of coffee, some dark chocolate. No alcohol bite on this 11.4% beer. Nice full body that holds well on the tongue, with low-medium carbonation.

Bottle by Cuso, thanks! Incredibly complex beer in both aroma and taste. Aroma dominated by coconut, but also strong dark malts, vanilla, very harmonious. Pitch colour. Coconut remains in taste, but mellows into a rich and harmonious malty base, loads of dark flavours, coffee, caramel, chocolate, also vanilla. Brilliant beer, masterpiece. Recommended anytime.

Bottle by Cuso, MANY MANY MANY thanks. Pours dark brown color, small beige head. Aroma of vanilla, coffee, chocolate, cocos, cocoa, cherries. Taste is sweet, medium bitter, vanilla, coffee, chocolate, cocos, cherries, crème brûlée. This is a superb beer, great, excellent. It has a very nice coffee sweet aftertaste.

UPDATED: FEB 8, 2015 Bottle from a secret Santa. 2012 bottle dated 12/28. Rate #999. Has been a WL for a long time. Aroma was lowest rated part too much bourbon that overpowered the other qualities. Only got about 6 oz as I dropped the damn bottle on the floor. Palate was creamy and thick 6 on a 5 point scale Taste was much more than aroma. Chocolate cocoa vanilla bourbon at end roasted malts also. Many moving parts that worked very well together. Note to self. Drink this cold as bourbon starts to over power when it warms.

simont1 (361) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - DEC 28, 2014
UPDATED: APR 12, 2015 Nose of bourbon fudge cake, loaded with oak and high quality bourbon, a very fullfilling nose which reminds you of bourbon county, but a bit more chocolate forward. Mouthfeel is abit thin, which is a let down, but it sure is very drinkable. Taste is full with coffee, dark chocolate, bourbon, very imperial stout forward and you notice it’s a great base beer. Some earthy hops, licorice, vanilla and smoke comes forward when you warm it up. For 10.5% this is great, but it’s a bit thin, even though the flavours you want are all there, it isn’t full on.
