COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black Note blends the complex aromatics of Expedition Stout with the velvety smooth texture of Double Cream Stout. The combination is aged in freshly retired oak bourbon barrels for months. The result is a malty harmony of dark chocolate, espresso and dried fruit notes, all buoyed by the warmth and fragrance of the bourbon barrel. Aimed squarely at the stout aficionados, Black Note makes a grand statement about the art of the dark.

12 oz bottle poured into a snifter. Dark brown, almost black, with a creamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla, oak, and bourbon. Taste is sweet and slightly bitter. Creamy mouthfeel, very smooth. This is a great beer. I still think Bourbon County is better, but very good.

12 oz 2012 bottle thanks to polomagnifico. Dark black pour, with a bubbly tan head. Pretty heavily roasted malt, sweetness, creamy milk chocolate, booze, and really nice bourbon vanillaey flavor. The barrel character is really nice and smooth with warming finish. Creamy smooth vanilla oak whiskey mmmm.

12oz bottle c/o SolidFunk (you shouldnít have!) shared with blankboy and biegaman. 2012 Black pour, solid light brown creamy/bubbly head. Love that aroma - Treacle, herbal bitterness, red wine, figs, coffee, vanilla, alcohol - lovely, and subtle. Taste follows - more vinous tannins - screw dat, just frickin good! slick, average body, modest carbonation, fruity, sweet, big but not boozy, slides down way, waaaay too easily. Sooper!

UPDATED: MAY 21, 2014 2012: 2 months after bottling. From the bottle to a snifter. Definitely bourbon. Thatís all I really get in the nose. Interested to see what itís like in a year. Light brown head that quickly dissipates. Front end of the taste is bourbon, back end you taste/smell the cream and malts, chocolate, coffee. The mouth feel is perfectly smooth. This is how a beer should feel.

Trade from Sean9689, thanks buddy. Very dark brown body with a medium light brown head. Aroma is bourbon, molasses, milk chocolate, wood, vanilla, malt, ripe fruit. Flavour is bourbon, chocolate, caramel, vanilla, ripe fruit, wood, malt. The alcohol tickles on the lips. Complex. This is amazing. Thanks Sean. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured into a goblet. Holy Shit, that was the coolest pour ever. Formed about 1/2 a finger of thick straight up brown head. The last few drops out of the bottle beaded up like water on a skillet. For a split second there was tiny black beer marbles rolling across the head. I couldnít believe my eyes, but Iím not the only one who saw it. It smells like oak and nuts. The taste is alcohol, smooth vanilla burbon flavor, and a dark chocolate after taste. The palate, is smooth and velvety. It leaves your mouth with a long after taste, and I can feel the alcohol on my lips. Dope brew.

UPDATED: SEP 7, 2013 Pours a very thick, black color, very similar to Dale Coopers dream coffee in Twin Peaks. About a 1/2 finger of head. First thing you smell is bourbon. It hits you quick and than follows with a mixture of chocolate, vanilla and caramel. The flavor is almost a carbon copy of the aroma, except in reverse order. You get a littlw sweet at first, followed by a lasting boozy, bourbon flavor. This being my first BA stout, I was not expecting the booziness that came with it, but it was delicious. Bought 2 bottles, 1 for drinking and for aging. I will be looking forward to next years release.

Aroma was mostly alcohol for me, which isnít really my taste. It was a pitch black pour, with a 1-finger head. Nothing I wasnít expecting. The taste was far less alcohol than I was expecting, following the aroma, but the alcohol was a little strong on the backend. It was good, but not really for me.
