COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black Note blends the complex aromatics of Expedition Stout with the velvety smooth texture of Double Cream Stout. The combination is aged in freshly retired oak bourbon barrels for months. The result is a malty harmony of dark chocolate, espresso and dried fruit notes, all buoyed by the warmth and fragrance of the bourbon barrel. Aimed squarely at the stout aficionados, Black Note makes a grand statement about the art of the dark.

Pours thick black, dark oil in color with a great dark cocoa head. The aroma brings the sweet vanilla and roasted coffee and chocolate-like malts so nice in the nose. The body is nice and creamy and brings roasted malt and some dark chocolate flavors with just a bit of sweet and bitterness blended well to end on the palate in a pleasant manner.

Amazing scent of bourbon and mocha. Taste smooth as silk with heavy dark chocolate notes. Bourbon is very light creating a perfect mouthfeel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

FOBAB ’12. Pours a black body with a finger-width, dense and creamy, dark brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is bigger bourbon and wood up front with a nice dark chocolate backing, roasts, touches of licorice, vanilla, hints of dark fruits, and some fruity pine hops. Flavor similar. Big bourbon and wood with a plethora of chocolate, roasts, some coffee, vanilla, and pine hops. Finishes dry, roasty, woody, and moderately bitter, but very rich from the chocolate and vanilla. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium-full, smooth body and a soft, moderate carbonation. Overall, a really solid beer. Very well balanced between the woody bourbon, rich malts, roasts, vanilla, and hops. Not exceptionally special, but delicious nonetheless. Great barrel aged imperial stout.

750 ml. bottle. Very excited to try this one. It pours a very thick black color with a small, disappearing brown head. The aroma has extremely nutty bourbon with caramel, cocoa, wood, toast and hints of vanilla. The flavor is superb with just the right balance of sweetness and attenuation. Big bourbon influence, wonderful dry, spicy barrel notes. Sweet without being cloying or syrupy. Chocolaty, caramel, nuts, spicy wood, campfire smoke. Pretty easy to drink despite the heaviness. This is awesome stuff. Just about perfect for the style.

Good, but not extraordinary. Very black with a lovely caramel color head. Brew-by-numbers in its aroma and flavor--vanilla, cream, chocolate, bourbon...it’s all there. But it doesn’t leap out of the glass. Smooth and decent, but the sausage was better. (on tap at New Bohmeia, MInneapolis)

On tap @ New Bohemian. Black color with a small head. Light malt aroma. Even after warming, not really anything. Taste is quite alcoholic. Rummy and some molasses. Dry malt towards the end.

On tap at New Bohemia tap takeover. Not what I was expecting. It was good but not AMAZING, as was expected. Overall its a great stout but it doesnt bring a whole lot to the table. It has a creamier Expedition stout taste. Almost no barrel flavor profile.
