COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black Note blends the complex aromatics of Expedition Stout with the velvety smooth texture of Double Cream Stout. The combination is aged in freshly retired oak bourbon barrels for months. The result is a malty harmony of dark chocolate, espresso and dried fruit notes, all buoyed by the warmth and fragrance of the bourbon barrel. Aimed squarely at the stout aficionados, Black Note makes a grand statement about the art of the dark.

12 oz Bottle. Pretty damn wonderful. Sweet aroma with just a hint of the Bourbon Barrel aging really doesn’t overpower the beer and gives it tremendous balance. This is awesome.

Not your typical beer! Fantastic flavor, doesn’t taste like it smells due to burbon aging. Low carbonation but after a year in a barrel I’m not surprised. Color is off for me, but taste is also good!!! Licorice, vanilla, and a smidge of red wine... I want more

poured into a 120z tulip glass to a opaque black.liquid with a thin brown head that quickly dissipates and minimal lacing. aromas of bourbon, chocolate, coffee and vanilla the flavor completely matches the aroma.when you smell this, you know what your about ready to taste, a beer with strong bourbon taste. it has a little too much alc on the finish

Bottle from a PUB"R anonymous crack whore (under contract). Pours thick oily jet black into my Stone RIS snifter with 1-finger tan head. The head is loud, and says to me, "How the hell did you find this beer in PA, you jerkoff?" A good question, head. Nose is huge and intense and complex; prunes, oaky bourbon, blackstrap molasses, blackberry, port, backup hops, and cognac. Tastes rich, complex, hefty on the palate, with the oaky and bourbon/cognac flavor taking the forefront. The palate heft is decreased, as we have seen with BA beers, and I dare say takes something away from this one, as it doesn’t have that heavy smooth semi-sweet creaminess of the Expedition or the DC stout. I put this one in the same genre as the 50/50 beers. A very good beer, with the oak and spirits taking center stage. In this case, those elements render the original beers unrecognizable for the most part, as such. The finish gets more hoppy and charred dark malt, and a lot of scotch flavor arises, with the peaty elements coming through. This one is a wonderful beer/spirit boundary breaker, but the 50/50s do it too, and the Bells original beers are better. Try this in a SBS with the 50/50 Periwinkle Blue wax, and I dare say they’d have 95% homology.

Pours as dark as motor oil with a thin off white head. Smells of bourbon are much more subtle than expected and very refined. Hints of malt and chocolate in the aroma as well. Taste is out of this world. Perfect balance on the palate of bourbon, chocolate and malt flavors. One of the very best beers I’ve had!

12oz bottle poured into glass. Wow! Decided to get greedy and bust open a bottle all for myself. Super dark with a thin beige head. Aroma definitely has hints of bourbon, vanilla cream and chocolate. Flavor may be a tad boozy but it doesn’t really take away from the experience. Quite outstanding and supremely delicious!

On tap! Awesome nose of bourbon vanilla wood, roasty dark chocolate, notes of coffee. Pitch black color. Good thin brown head, minimal amount remains. Little lace. Big body. Dry finish. Light, softer, smoother carbonation. Awesome long vanilla roasty dark chocolate light coffee bourbon-soaked wood aftertaste. Moderate bitter taste, lighter sweet, light alcohol warmth, very tasty. Very satisfying bourbon barrel aged imperial stout.

Pours jet black with a minimal tan head. Had aromas of chocolate and bourbon, with a bit of a roastyness to it. Heavily sweet, and a bit of a burn from the bourbon that leaves a strong aftertaste. Full bodied beer, and much like I would imagine drinking motor oil would feel like. While this may be just a bit overrated, It was a pure pleasure to drink. I have a bottle of this to age, and I am very interested to see what comes of that.
