4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Draft at Proof. Opaque black pour with a small tan head. Aroma of deep fudge, vanilla, roasted malts, bourbon, oak and bitter chocolates. Lots of chewy Hersey’s kisses in the flavor along with vanilla, brûlée crust, oak, subtle bourbon. Vicious body with hardly noticeable alcohol and a slightly bitter finish. Fucking delicious beer and a real treat.

Has the nose of bourbon, vanilla, and touch of oak, alcohol comes through too. The heat isn’t too bad on the palate, it actually has a creamy texture from the double stout. It’s rich but really tasty. Don’t drink it on an empty stomach!

On tap at proof. Excited. Black pour with khaki head that fades. Aromas of wood vanilla coconut and coffee. Really enjoy the fresh cut wood aroma. Tastes of wood pulp vanilla and roasted grains. Lots of tannins. Thinner body than expected and I like full body stouts. Absolute pleasure to try this beer. As it warms up doesn’t get any more flavor. Really good beer try it if you can but don’t give up the world to try it.

750 ml C&C bottle served in a Deschutes tulip. Bottle # 272/1081. Huge thanks to Andrew (nasty31) for the share. This was the night cap to the pre-DLD tasting.
A: Pours a jet black with a light khaki head forming on the pour. It recedes slowly to a thin collar that leaves some soapy looking lace across the glass.
S: Bourbon up front in the nose and slowly the dark fruits and pure chocolate start to emerge. As the glass warms the sweeter notes of caramel to show and the roasted malts also get amplified.
T: The dark fruits and the bourbon flavors are up front with smooth oak and a nice combination of dark chocolate and sweet milk chocolate. The finish is roasty with a nice addition of caramel and vanilla from the barrel.
M: Smooth and sweet with a low carbonation and chewier body. There is a mild warmth on the back end of each sip.
O: I really got the nice dark fruit and dark chocolate flavors from the Expedition Stout and the creamy malt and milk chocolate flavors from the Double Cream Stout. Overall, combined with the barrel aging this was a very nice beer.

Motor oil with a dark brown thin head. Smells like vanilla, coffe and dark caramel. The taste is pure mocha and sweet bourbon with roasted hints., Nice!

Thanks to Owen for the bottle.
Pours black, very thick, slightly oily looking. Dark mocha colored head with good lacing.
Nose is of bourbon, wood, roasted grains and malts. Big nose.
Taste and feel are quite heavy. Get a big amount of the base beer which is quite good but quite big and filling. Lots of roasted malts, slight charred ash and a lot of Vegemite and dark chocolate. Low carbonation.
Big beer. Quite heavy. Good beer though

Autumn Brew Review 2012. A thick, heavy beer. Very low carbonation, similar to Expedition in that way. Heavily roasted grain, with some sugar. There is bourbon in the aroma and as well as in the flavor. AS far as bourbon-aged beers go, it is very good, but still more bourbon than I like.

Draft sample at Big Beers. This is a top-notch brew. Well worth its lofty ratings. Dangerously drinkable for such a big beer. Molasses, brown sugar, booze and a little vanilla. Yummy.

I had a sample of this at The Steel City Big Pour in Pittsburgh this September. The beer pours out black as pitch, with a mocha head. On the nose, I picked up vanilla, caramel, and oak barrel. The flavors were butterscotch, toffee, smoky dark chocolate, and black olives (presumably from the barrel). You could definitely pick up on the bourbon too, but it wasn’t integrated into the beer as well as with other barrel-aged stouts. On the whole though, this was fantastic and I feel really lucky to have tried this.
