Black Note blends the complex aromatics of Expedition Stout with the velvety smooth texture of Double Cream Stout. The combination is aged in freshly retired oak bourbon barrels for months. The result is a malty harmony of dark chocolate, espresso and dried fruit notes, all buoyed by the warmth and fragrance of the bourbon barrel. Aimed squarely at the stout aficionados, Black Note makes a grand statement about the art of the dark.

On tap at kellerhers in Peoria, IL. Pours pitch black. Nice lacy tan head. I get coffee and just dark malts on he nose. I love how hoppy this is. It starts as a really immensely dark fruity almost too sweet and creamy stout then immediately gets cut by intense hops and ends just perfect. Creamy and awesome mouthfeel. Pours near black with a khaki head. Aroma is bourbon, vanilla, roast, and wood. Taste is sweet with alcohol burn. Good, but not as much as I remember from the first time I had it.

Black pour, thin brown lacing. Very sweet and sticky bourbon aroma. Fig, plum, cherry, blackcurrant fruits compete with milk chocolate, roasted malt, charred wood. Smooth, creamy, full-bodied, and a light bitter finish. Alcohol is decently hidden.

12 oz bottle courtesy of Mikem409. Thanks. Pours an opaque black color with a small tan head that fades to a coarse ring. The aroma is big and bold with overpowering whiskey, anise, and dark fruits. The flavor, like the nose, features anise, raisins, dates, plums, whiskey, mocha, roasted grains and molasses. The palate is thick and chewy with soft carbonation. Finishes long and semi-sweet with lingering bourbon. Overall: very tasty, very complex--worthy of the accolades it has received.

UPDATED: FEB 17, 2013 Pours a inky black with a minimal head. Aromas of soy sauce, salty water, brine. Taste is a complete 180 from the nose... Smooth restrained bourbon character, very barrel-centric, but not boozy on the palate. Very nice. Very drinkable. Alcohol is well hidden. Pretty creamy too. Nice chocolate character, along with a dose of roasted coffee. This is very good, but nowhere near the top impy stouts that Iíve had, in my opinion.

MORNING AFTER UPDATE: So, I got so hammered last night I actually ended up puking this beer back up. It wasnít as good the 2nd time around. Poured dark brown into the sink. Aromas of harsh acid, some roast still apparent. Little to no head, even with the aggressive pour. Taste was very acidic with hints of Andy Cappís Hot Fries. Hot and harsh. Finishes with an alcoholic burn and lots of shame. Lots of tooth enamel was lost, my brothers. 2/3/1/1/1= 0.8

Funny, Iíve been chasing this wale for five years and I spear it at work. The nose kind of sucks. Muted bourbon, soy, and chocolate. The flavor though is unreal. Big, boozy chocolate bomb. Obvious expo notes. Plenty of Bourbon goodness. rich. Big. Holy fuck. This is just wonderful. Completely contrasting aroma and flavor.

After a few close calls, I finally snagged this one. On tap at El Bait Shop. Color: notes of blackness. What a surprise, this is awesome. Tons of dark chocolate, roastier than all hell. Aroma is just average; thereís some boozy fruityness (cherry) that I donít like.

Dark black pour, frothy tan head that recedes to a ring. Aroma of chocolate, bourbon, wood, and soy sauce. Nice viscous mouth feel, medium to heavy body. Taste is chocolate, charr, soy sauce, wood, and a nice balance of bourbon flavor.

12 oz bottle poured into a snifter. Dark brown, almost black, with a creamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla, oak, and bourbon. Taste is sweet and slightly bitter. Creamy mouthfeel, very smooth. This is a great beer. I still think Bourbon County is better, but very good.
