COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black Note blends the complex aromatics of Expedition Stout with the velvety smooth texture of Double Cream Stout. The combination is aged in freshly retired oak bourbon barrels for months. The result is a malty harmony of dark chocolate, espresso and dried fruit notes, all buoyed by the warmth and fragrance of the bourbon barrel. Aimed squarely at the stout aficionados, Black Note makes a grand statement about the art of the dark.

Thick black brown pour with no head. Very intense and complex aroma: molasses, lots of bourbon, charred wood adds some smokiness (nice twist!), some caramel and ripe fruits (plums, figs). Awesome. Taste is very rich, lots of roasted malts, bourbon, vanilla and chocolate. Flavors are enhanced by the sublime creamy mouthfeel and low carbonation. Intense and refined. Side-by-side with BA speedway with BA speedway being a close winner. Although I prefered Black Note’s palate and aroma, BA speedway’s flavors were out of this world.

Enjoyed a tasting of the 2014 vintage of this outstanding stout at Delilahs. Wow, this is one smooth beer. The chocolate notes come up big on the front end, with the bourbon aging giving this a soft boozy undertone rather than taking over the whole flavor profile. More full bodied than KBS with a lighter mouthfeel than BCS. Unique for this style, and absolutely top class.

Black with a thin tan head. Aroma is dark fruit with a bit of sweet alcohol. Flavor is sweet, dark candy and a tiny bit of bitterness. Wife: 4.5

This is a monster of a beer. Very Carmelly and vanilla flavored. Pours dark brown and smelks like vanilla. Had at dark lord ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Amazing beer, loads of bourbon sweetness up front, vanilla and oakyness, followed by some malty flavors and coffee + chocolate. Great mouthfeel, this beer is just clearly one of the best, It ages well as well, bourbon flavor is subdued a little bit and it gets more passive instead of being the first and most smack in the face flavor ever.

Bottle 2014 a few months old. Pours with a tan head and thick legs. Aroma is big rich roast, sweet dark chocolate, a bit of espresso acids, Bourbon. The flavor is similar with a substantial clean bitterness and heat balancing out the sweetness. Feel is slick, somewhat lively, but the alcohol and wood take over. It’s potent monster but very well put together. Definitely enjoying this more than the draught KBS I had two nights ago.

12 oz bottle. 2014. Was only able to buy one 12 oz bottle. Very good bourbon barrel stout. I think I liked kbs better. A bit too sweet and boozy. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

4/22/14. 2014 bottle. Pours jet black with a thin mocha head. Bourbon and cherry/dark fruit nose. Deep dark complex mouth with lots of hop and chocolate bitterness balanced with fruit and alcohol. Super big but nothing dominates. Yummy! Wish I had more to put up because it will age well. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Finally! 2014 Bottle. Pours opaque brown-black with a fizzy light brown head. Aroma is bourbon, chocolate, molasses, more cocoa, wood, earth, syrupy, caramel, hint of coffee, toffee, alcohol. Smells amazing. Taste is remarkable; huge flavor profile, coffee, chocolate, caramel, espresso, light herbal bitterness, bourbon, wood, creaminess; finish is bitter chocolate and espresso. Nice laces throughout. Low carbonation. Rich, full, syrupy mouth feel. This is fantastic. World class beer.
