Black Note blends the complex aromatics of Expedition Stout with the velvety smooth texture of Double Cream Stout. The combination is aged in freshly retired oak bourbon barrels for months. The result is a malty harmony of dark chocolate, espresso and dried fruit notes, all buoyed by the warmth and fragrance of the bourbon barrel. Aimed squarely at the stout aficionados, Black Note makes a grand statement about the art of the dark.

Pours black with no head. Nose is roast, dark fruits maybe cherry, touch of bourbon, burnt sugar, milk chocolate, touch milky, a bit of barrel. Taste is dark fruits, milk chocolate, cherry, bit milky, I don't taste the 11% at all. Creamy and excellent mouthfeel. This beer truly is great. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle to glass. Random find at west Lakeview liquors in Chicago. Pours a deep black with a thin creamy light brown head. Aroma is a beautiful roasted malts, oak, vanilla, bourbon, dark fruits, very complex. Flavor is sweet roasted malts, light coffee, some bitterness, choclatey sweetness. Full body with a creamy mouth feel and a lingering dark roasted sweetness. Extraordinary! Got one more that will have to age a few years before the next try.

Bottle shared with mrbunn courtesy of coyotehunter. Smells like dark fruit, anise, and motor oil, but the good kind. No foam to speak of, and super awful, frightening dark. Taste is crazy smooth and almost light compared to the nose. Delicious, like sweet black candy with booze mixed in. Delicious and complex with the majority of the taste coming late in the palate. We likes it. I prefer deliverance, but this is such a close second as to not matter. Great.

Jekyl: first few sips and wow... strong chocolate, caramel, and a little bourbon. Hyde: after that then all bourbon, very little choc and caramel. Must be user error.

Appearance - 5 - Dark brown/black beer with a dark tan head that dissapears pretty quickly due to the high ABV. Aroma - 10 - Huge bourbon barrel characteristics, bourbon, toasted coconut, vanilla, coffee, chocolate, dark chocolate backbone. Taste - 10 - Huge creamy dark chocolate backbone, smooth bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, vanilla, cream, umami Mouthfeel - 5 - Super heavy mouthfeel, like a chocolate milkshake in beer form. Alc is a little warming but that’s totally understandable at 11.4% ABV. Aftertaste is mainly coffee, with a touch of the bourbon barrel characteristics. Overall - 20 - Possibly the best beer I’ve ever had. I’d love to compare it to FW Parabola, but we’ll see if that ever happens...

Only downfall is the mouthfeel. Taste and aroma really bring out the bourbon barrel and are awesome.

12oz bottle. Black as the eyes of night. Aromas of Malted chocolate balls ( like a Whopper), with booze drifting off the top. Nothing stands out, because its a perfect creamy blend of dark fruit flavors, malts, chocolates, Bourbon, and coffee. A very soft sweetness countered by the hops and bitter black malts. Damn! its good!

I have nothing wrong to say about this beautiful crafted beer! Smokey bourbon flavors coffe dark fruits! It’s the best stout I think I’ve ever had! It’s a real big beer bought two bottles going to cellar the other for a good year our so it will only get better! It’s really hard to find but if you can find it PICK IT UP!

Purchased at Irving Park Liquors in Chicago, IL (last 4 pack!!!!); enjoyed at home on a Friday night getting ready to watch playoff hockey. Man am I happy to be trying this one! Appearance is a rich pitch black with a moderate dark tan head that nicely dissipates. Aroma is really complex, with great dark chocolate and coffee notes, mixed with bourbon, mint, light vanilla, light oak barrel, like BCBS but more subdued/delicate even? Maybe that doesn’t make sense, but it smells pretty incredible. Taste is pretty great, light burn going down, light carbonation, rich chocolate notes and lasting coffee...goes well with peanut butter cake! This is a good one, will definitely save one or two for aging.

Wow. Aroma is incredible bourbon. Taste is bourbon, malt, chocolate, espresso. Strong bourbon flavor from start to finish. Really full bodied, creamy mouthfeel. Really impressive. This beer lives up to its billing.
