4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
12 oz. bottle 2012 vintage. Great appearance. Nose is fantastic. Light bourbon over day old coffee and cream, dark sweet chocolate and subtle vanilla oak. Snap!! This sat just long enough. No bourbon alcohol burn, just sweet and smooth all the way down. Of course need I mention the rich cocoa, dry roasted malts, brownie matter and subtle oak? Should I also explain the full body with an oily texture that screams take another sip? I like to age all my BBA stouts about a year in time. This has been one of the best examples I have tasted. The bourbon and roasted flavor linger ridiculously long after the sip. Down.... Right.... Bad.... Ass. Nothing else to state here.

Woot! Hex kbuddddddd. Smells incredible. White choco, licorice faded away almost totally, sweet spice is mild, light soy sauce, deep roasted oats, excellent choco, wonderfully oaky and vanillaeee, borderline melted brown sugar. Finally had to succum to drinking this. Melted medium choco of good sweetness and balanced bitterness, coconut, vanilla, suckable nose burn, mellow oak, slight caramel or toffee or whatever, heavy roast that is not remotely sweet. Enjoyable all around. Excellent brew.

Bottle - Vintage 2012 - Bells usual soy and sweet bitter notes. Jet black with a thin brown head. Soy, coffee, chocolate and a nice sweet finish. Big rich mouthfeel which is what I love about these beers. The soy is a bit much for me.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle shared big thanks to Kermis. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a round bubbly tan head. The aroma is truly amazing with lots of malts rich vanilla bourbon and oaky notes. The flavour is strong bitter with a super smooth bubbly yeast alcoholic liqourice palate. Full bodied with flat carbonation and a lovely oily mouthfeel. The alcohol is very well controlled given the ABV. A superb beer fully deserving of its rating.

Poured into 5oz at new years day event. Pours a thick dark slick color with minimal head. Bourbon is easily noticeable but blends very well with the underlying tones of coffee and chocolate with maybe even a hint of dark fruit. Flavor is upfront with the bourbon and roasted malt notes and a heavy alcohol presence. Turns into a nice chocolate coffee mixture with a slight burn from the alcohol in the back end. Mouth feel is bitter and only slightly sweet. Carbonation is low and I think could benefit more. Phenomenal beer I would love to have again.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
2012 bottle. Generously sent from Summer Secret Santa. The pour is black with a flimsy head on top that never fully develops. The aroma is of raisins, leather, light on the bourbon, some wood, and also a touch of licorice. Kind of underwhelming in that department. Warming, smooth, and silky in the mouth. Much more chocolaty than the scent had me thinking it would be, which was a good thing. Bourbon barrel notes, alcohol-soaked raisins, light sooty ash, and licorice provide some nice depth and a good blend of flavors. Some sticky sweetness in the finish is the only thing preventing this from being a very highly drinkable 10% beer. Not as big or creamy in the body as expected. A very good beer but probably a little over-hyped, as many barrel-aged Imperial Stouts seem to be.

Poured from a bottle during Christmas party (2013) at Galbo's. I had been sitting on this one all year until Christmas, and was it worth the wait. Unbelievable beer. Pours a thick, oily dark black color with very small head. Aroma was wonderful and complex: malts, chocolate, vanilla, bourbon. And the taste is smooth for such high ABV. It was actually semi-sweet, but not too much. Great balance. It has a smooth and creamy texture to it. Overall, this beer is at the top of the list for me regarding stouts. Great work Bells!
