COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black Note blends the complex aromatics of Expedition Stout with the velvety smooth texture of Double Cream Stout. The combination is aged in freshly retired oak bourbon barrels for months. The result is a malty harmony of dark chocolate, espresso and dried fruit notes, all buoyed by the warmth and fragrance of the bourbon barrel. Aimed squarely at the stout aficionados, Black Note makes a grand statement about the art of the dark.

UPDATED: APR 2, 2012 On tap at Mr. Beerys Sarasota. Thanks Mark! Aroma is perfect, bourbon, chocolate, roasted malts. Opens up more as it warms up. Taste is phenomenal, more than expected and perfectly matched to the aroma. Mouthfeel is lighter than expected, but works out. Can’t say enough about the beer, surpassed my expectations.

Thin brown head thats short lived, little lace. Murky black brown hue. Nose of whisky, alc. some dark fruit notes and a hint of chocolate. Med/full body, lightly oily but thinner than expected, little sticky on the lips. Lotsa whisky with faint woody notes, roast, whisky, tobacco and some prunes. Finish is boozy, warm and not really long. Fairly underwhelming. #3 beer in the top 50, wow. So many better Impy,s BA and not Barrel aged. shakin my head on this one. Props to weisguy for hookin me up with this RARE brew. Thanks bro!

Bottle shared by Mike12da. Huge vanilla aroma, bourbon, chocolate, sweet cream, marshmallows. Way over the top like a circus. Flavor of vanilla and marshmallow, bourbon, chocolate. Very sweet and a bit too much but lovely. Very obvious and unabashed flavor like a 17-year-old whore, but very fun and crazy. Great stuff.

Bottle shared by the infamous "sloth".... Black in color, nice little tan head. Nose of hot alcohol, bourbon notes... slight roasted malts... Taste follows the nose but isnt as harsh as the nose... Roasted malts, the bourbon is very present and definetly the prominant character but isnt harsh or over abrasive... usually I dont enjoy this "over the top" beer but Bells blends it well. To be honest I thought the alcohol was closer to 12%.... This bad boy has some fire to it. Warming to say the least. Body is a little sticky but pretty smooth and easy to drink. Overall: A very enjoyable beer. Thanks B:E:R:T

UPDATED: JAN 16, 2013 900th rating!! Bottle 504 of 1081, batch 10136. Aroma has notes of bourbon, vanilla, espresso, chocolate, oak, dark dried fruits, molasses and a little smoke. Very nice! Pitch black hue with an average/small medium light/med brown hue that mostly diminished and left little lace. Flavor is very sweet and heavy bitterness. Palate is full bodied and watery soft. Long bitter finish. Overall a good bourbon impy. Very bourbon forward with a bitter boozy finish. Really good nose though. I have been searching for this beer for years and years. Finally the day has arrived. I was hoping for a heavy body and less booze but it gets really good as it warms and the booze blends with the beer really well. Great beer.

One of my top wants and I have been waiting years to try this. Smells like the real bourbon deal! Really rich and heavy vanilla mixed with bourbon. Taste is very bourbon forward and mouthfeel is thick. This is one of the best beers I have ever had. Definitely worth the wait! WOOHOO

Thanks to Mike for the bottle! Black Note pours a deep black with a thin tan head and light lacing. The nose is filled with vanilla beans and sweet bourbon. Lots of cocoa and oak. Lovely. The taste follows suit with vanilla, caramel, cocoa and a nice level of bourbon throughout. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy with some nice weight. Light carbonation. Booze, but not overdone. Essentially a perfect body for this style. Overall, this beer is awesome. Perfectly executed. Maybe not the most complex stout out there, but the flavors are rich and beautiful. Love the vanilla and bourbon combo. Highly recommended.

UPDATED: MAR 3, 2013 On tap during the Bell’s Eccentric Day event at the Hungry Monk (part of Arizona Beer Week). Pours a dark black with a very thin, off-white head. A solid aroma of sweet bourbon goodness and dried cherries. The taste starts with a light roasted malt with a sweet cherry undertone, all the while supported by a balanced bourbon backbone. Smooth with a medium body and a slightly dry finish. Still a great brew, but nowhere near as good as it was at the same event in 2012.

Bottle, 03/17/2012. Pours thick black, mostly opaque, thin tan head fades to swirling surface slick, thick lacing rims the glass. Aroma is rich chocolate maltiness, moderate roast, touch of fruitiness, and big barrel notes - vanilla, coconut, caramel, wood, bourbon heat. Taste begins with molasses, malty body, licorice, vanilla caramel bourbon character, balanced by coffee roast, lovely lingering aftertaste of vanilla, subtle fruitiness, alcohol barely present. Palate is full, smooth and round without being too thick. Overall- rich, complex, balanced and well restrained. I was expecting a thick creamy bourbon bomb but found instead just a very well done brew.
