Black Note blends the complex aromatics of Expedition Stout with the velvety smooth texture of Double Cream Stout. The combination is aged in freshly retired oak bourbon barrels for months. The result is a malty harmony of dark chocolate, espresso and dried fruit notes, all buoyed by the warmth and fragrance of the bourbon barrel. Aimed squarely at the stout aficionados, Black Note makes a grand statement about the art of the dark.

32 oz. growler, sent from Codysjb (thanks a lot, Cody ). Pours jet black with a small light brown head. Aroma is huge on the bourbon barrels and vanilla, lots of chocolate as well, with shitloads of depth. Flavour is uber-complex with huge bourbon notes, loads of caramel malts, vanilla and some chocolate liqueur. Insanely complex and barrel-heavy giving off dominating bourbon and vanilla notes. Viscous as fuck, very thick and syrupy. For bourbon bombs, this is one of the best for sure.

Very good beer that didnt live up to my inflated expectations. Aroma reminded me of a mikkeller stout in a good way. Tons of roast, earth, light vanilla, bourbon. Taste is a bit muddled but great notes of lactose and coffee. The base beer is fantastic but the barrel aging was where it fell short for me. A bit of slight raw bourbon or spirit flavor that doesnt seem to blend with the beer as it should.

Bottle. Stout day, my least favorite day of the year. Pours a deep black but not as viscous as I might have thought. Big tan head. Aroma is pronounced coffee and slight chocolate raisin. Taste is again, more iced coffee and toffee. Decadent to say the least. Overall, the bottle was very different than the draft pour I have had in a slightly better way.

On tap at the Kansas City Flying Saucer. Pours a black color with brown head. Smooth, milky, roasted, chocoloate, bourbon flavors. So smooth, yet so flavorful. Great beer.

UPDATED: SEP 28, 2014 On tap at eccentric cafe. Dark black pour into snifter, half inch of beige head that settled quickly. Malty scent, brown sugar and molasses. Thick mouth feel with little carbonation. Very sweet malty, mature flavor: maple syrup, molasses, dark fruits and brown sugar. Finish is sour and a bit bitter, mouth was a little tingly. Very nice. April 2014 update: enjoyed 2/28/12 bottle. Super rich, super boozy aroma. Powdery, corn-y bourbon aroma, powdery Carmel is strong. Very low carbonation, somewhat thin mouthfeel, numbs the tongue on finish very slightly. Supremely rich flavor, heavy on the Carmel and molasses, dark fruits and rich dark chocolate or cocoa. Amazingly smooth and well blended compared to other BBA stouts.

Bottle. Pours with pitch black hued body. Glass coating, tan head. Medium retention. Aromas show medium to strong bourbon character, medium barrel vanillin, light coffee, low smoke, vanilla bean. Flavors are surprisingly smooth, bourbon, vanilla, bready. Low esters and a nicely clean roast character. Medium coffee. Full bodied, lower carbonation. Quite good!

~10 oz tulip/goblet type glass draft at Martin City Brewing Company. The aroma is soft cocoa sweetness, along with Bourbon and wood barrel notes, and a nice amount roast. The taste is big sweetness, vanilla and cocoa, then moves to strong barrel, and a strong sweet alcohol finish. The flavors are well integrated, big and bold. The roast, cream and bourbon booze linger. The Palate is medium bodied, low carbonation, and an oily texture leading to the finish.

On tap at Bryant Lake Bowl in September. Pours deep black. Oily, viscous, small tan head. Aroma has a bit of booziness, dark fruits, slight roastiness and sweet. I love the sweetness that is then cut by the barrel. Long sweet finish. I love this beer. One of my favorites
