Black Note blends the complex aromatics of Expedition Stout with the velvety smooth texture of Double Cream Stout. The combination is aged in freshly retired oak bourbon barrels for months. The result is a malty harmony of dark chocolate, espresso and dried fruit notes, all buoyed by the warmth and fragrance of the bourbon barrel. Aimed squarely at the stout aficionados, Black Note makes a grand statement about the art of the dark.

Bottle from Champanes, this stout had a black-brown pour and made a one finger tan colored head that receded to a cover that had some open areas and a thick ring, this beer was opaque and I could not see through but I saw a mound of bubbles on the top of the beer and some bubbles flowing up the sides of the glass, it left spots and fingers of lacing on the sides of the glass, I saw no sediment in the bottle, this beer had aromas of bourbon, vanilla, bourbon liquor, roasted malt, caramel, some chocolate, malt and bourbon sweetness, it had flavors of roasted malt, bourbon, molasses, bourbon liquor and malt sweetness, there was a little burnt roasted malt notes and there was a touch of coffee flavor in the background, the finish had roasted malt with molasses and a touch of bitterness, the mouth feel was more than medium and had a little creaminess, this beer had more sweetness on the nose than on the mouth, a nice bourbon barreled Imperial stout, not too much bourbon as I find in many Imperial stouts, and not a lot of sweetness like some BB Impys, this was a nice mix of Bourbon Barrel and Imperial Stout.

Une grand merci à Clark pour cette magnifique bouteille! Cheers my friend!

2012 Pours black and oily with a minimal tan head. Complex aroma of roast malts, coffee, chocolate, bourbon. Sweet smooth sipper that has all the flavors that were in the aroma. Well done typical BA Impy Stout.

Have had this from 750ml bottle 12oz bottle and a growler fill a few years back. Pours out ink black topped with a brown head. This was one of my top wants back in the day. Nose is amazing roast malts chocolate coffee vanilla bourbon barrel and plenty of sweetness. Taste is more of the nice thick roast malts chocolate sweetness vanilla bourbon barrel.

People have been talking and writing about this Imperial Stout for a long time, but you don’t really know what to expect until you try it yourself. This stuff is seriously classy. Black as starless night and a dark brown head. Aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, bourbon, charred malt, and a hint of cream. Flavor has more of the same but with some dark fruit (plum, currant) and spice (anise). The bourbon note is smooth and rich. Black Note’s feel is full but velvety soft. It’s hard to oversell this beer. Or recommend it enough.

Black with small creamy brown head. Aroma is bourbon, dark chocolate, figs, licorice, vanilla, caramel, oak and slight oxidized notes of sherry. Taste is sweet with dark sugar, dried fruits, licorice, vanilla, smooth roasted bitterness with chocolate and coffee notes. Finish is sweet and bitter with chocolate, warming bourbon alcohol and caramel. Full bodied, creamy oily texture, soft carbonation.

Bottle/Fest. A- Cocoa, coffee, bourbon, mocha, dark fruits. A- Black color, black liquid, brown head. T- Chocolate, mocha, bourbon, coffee, oak, dark fruits. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, complex finish. O- What a beer. I really wish I had more of this to really appreciate and savor it. Everything about it is balanced to a T and I really can’t find anything I didn’t like about it. Amazing how smooth it was.

Shared with the Lizard Boyz. Small snifter pour was a black used motor oil with small mocha head. The aroma was stellar with dark chocolate, nibs, caramel, vanilla, dark fruits. The taste was at first serious deep dark chocolate, slight coffee, big oak barrel, hints of vanilla and cocoa powder, some dark fruits as well. Think mouth, medium light in carb. Slick big oaked finish. So damn good.
