COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black Note blends the complex aromatics of Expedition Stout with the velvety smooth texture of Double Cream Stout. The combination is aged in freshly retired oak bourbon barrels for months. The result is a malty harmony of dark chocolate, espresso and dried fruit notes, all buoyed by the warmth and fragrance of the bourbon barrel. Aimed squarely at the stout aficionados, Black Note makes a grand statement about the art of the dark.

P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, complex finish. O- What a beer. I really wish I had more of this to really appreciate and savor it. Everything about it is balanced to a T and I really canít find anything I didnít like about it. Amazing how smooth it was.

Shared with the Lizard Boyz. Small snifter pour was a black used motor oil with small mocha head. The aroma was stellar with dark chocolate, nibs, caramel, vanilla, dark fruits. The taste was at first serious deep dark chocolate, slight coffee, big oak barrel, hints of vanilla and cocoa powder, some dark fruits as well. Think mouth, medium light in carb. Slick big oaked finish. So damn good.

Got a bottle of this as an extra. Never had it before, but reminds me of of CW Bourbon Barrel Stout, just thicker and boozier. Thick dark body. Tons of chocolate flavor with oak and slightly too much whiskey. Very good.

CBC 2015. Pours a luxious velvety black with a medium tan head. Aromas of chocolate, muscovado sugar, bourbon, caramel and vanilla. Taste is chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, muscovado sugar and caramel. Mouthfeel is very smooth and full bodied with almost no carbonation. This is exceptionally well-balanced and stupendously good!

Originally reviewed 2/15/2012. On tap at Bx Beer Depot. A keg of Hopslam and a keg of Black Note. Amazingly, the Hopslam kicked long before the Black Note, so I enjoyed three of these as I watched people go nuts for Hopslam. Big khaki head. Not a particularly dark head, though. Decent retention. Huge barrel aroma. Bourbon, vanilla, and oak. Roasted chocolate, but otherwise the stout is a touch lost in the barrel. Boozy, too. Taste is chocolate and a building tingle of bourbon. Vanilla flavor throughout. The chocolate comes back in the finish in a much more bitter manifestation. Less boozy in the finish that the smell would indicate. Really wonderful incorporation of barrel and stout. Very creamy, which I assume is the Cream Stout. Boozy and chewy, but not too thick. Low carbonation, which is strange. Nearly flat. Itís damn good. I donít know how much separates the best BA stouts, but this one is quite nice.

Bourbony chocolate smell. Bourbony chocolate taste along with the other malty notes typical of stouts. It is too boozy though.
