Sammy (3934), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 9, 2009 Enjoyed on tap at the eccentric Cafe. Not a bad one, with Black colour and lace. Creamy mouthfeel, yet light mouthfeel. Served colder. Interesting flavour profile and drinkable. Worth trying if you like the style.Neutral in aroma. GodOfThunder (855), Orlando, Florida, USA Aug 6, 2009 nice aroma of toasted malts and cocoa. lighter flavor of malts and rye. nice brew. fairly light but still having a ton of flavor. coyotehunter (542), , Michigan, USA Jul 17, 2009 On tap at the Eccentric Cafe 7/17/09. Nice look to it, pours black with minimal head, minimal aroma....Flavor is of roasted malt, a hint of coffee, and a somewhat dry Finish. It gets better as it warms, but still is nothing great. MrStitch (138), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 3, 2008 On tap at the Eccentric Cafe. Pours an almost jet black with a dark tan head. Aroma is roasted grains with a hint of pumpernickel bread mixed in. Taste is very smooth roasted grains, coffee, and some caramel sweetness with a tart finish . Mouthfeel was warm and rich with a smooth finish. Another quality Bells brew. fiver29 (703), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Jun 6, 2008 On tap pours black with little aroma to it. Has a thin mouthfeel. Taste is not very impressive and has just a typical taste for this style. Overall not an impressive beer. Silphium (2117), Haslett, Michigan, USA May 29, 2008 On tap at the Eccentric Cafe. Deep, opaque chocolate-brown body, medium tight beige head. Nose of chocolate and spicy grain. Rather thin at first sip, with rye huskiness, grainy with brown ale characteristics, including chocolate and nutty notes. Bitter rye finish. As the beer warmed, coffee notes became prominent. A malt-dominated beer, unlike the hoppier Founders Black Rye. Allow this beer to warm a bit from serving temperature for full enjoyment.
