3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 MrStitch (138) - Pittsburgh, USA - SEP 3, 2008
On tap at the Eccentric Cafe. Pours an almost jet black with a dark tan head. Aroma is roasted grains with a hint of pumpernickel bread mixed in. Taste is very smooth roasted grains, coffee, and some caramel sweetness with a tart finish . Mouthfeel was warm and rich with a smooth finish. Another quality Bells brew.

On tap at the Eccentric Cafe.
Pours a very dark brown, bordering on black. Given the name, I guess I’ll just say it was black. Creamy light tan head floats atop for awhile before eventually settling down. The nose offers a bit of peppery spice plus some earthiness. Roasted malt and hints of coffee there as well. The taste is pretty plan--mostly just some roasted malt with a bit of zestiness there. Mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation levels and a slightly-dry finish. Drinks fairly well. I’d have this again if offered, but generally there are better things on tap at the EC that I’d prefer.

Draft. Poured a clear dark brown color with an average fizzy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted rye malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium toasted sweet flavor with a medium sweet tingly finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable brew.

On-tap at the Cafe, drank from a 5oz tasting glass...Dark brown with a hint of amber, very clear on the edges, looks great. A big head rises a couple fingers but then fades immediately, light lacing...The aroma is totally dead, nothing going on... The taste is light coffee, boring, can’t even tell rye is here.

On tap at the Eccentric Cafe 7/17/09. Nice look to it, pours black with minimal head, minimal aroma....Flavor is of roasted malt, a hint of coffee, and a somewhat dry Finish. It gets better as it warms, but still is nothing great.
