Tap at Maduro pre GTMW 2012. Filtered looking, slightly hazy amber-tan. Oily glass rimming head, off white. Really transforms the Amber into something different creature. Chewy body, almost like a Rye. Sweet and nutty. Rich and bold, flavorful barrel tones for the ABV. Impressive.

On tap at Maduro. Poured clear, smoked amber with a spotty beige head. The aroma picked up sweet nutty notes, with green apple and a touch of bourbon around.. sweet overall, and not enticing. The flavor found tangy apple skins, oak, and bourbon over meatier apple and nutty malts.. more fruit skins on the finish.. meh. Light-medium bodied, tart, and sticky on the palate.. didnít feel or taste good.

I wasnít sure what to expect from this but it came out well. Barrel aging is a bit passe now that everyone is doing it but this works. Take a solid amber and add some more complexity. What you have is this above average draft.
Aroma / Appearance - The cloudy base is accented by a filmy head. Green apples detract from oak and caramel. Mellow sweet tarts make it taste like candy in a glass.
Flavor / Palate - Malts and noble hops are still active despite the extra aging. Oak comes through most strongly in the finish. It isnít bad but I do not think the barrel treatment really added any more depth to an already solid session beer.

On tap at Maduro for the pre-GTMW party, pours copper with a nice off white head and spotty lacing, the aroma has a hint of whiskey with mainly the malt and caramel coming through, the flavor is sweet with just a little bit of bourbon coming through in the finish, not over powering at all, but I kind of wished there was a little more there.

Draft on tap at Maduro (Madison, WI). Pours a rich deeper amber orange hue, kiss of haze, with a frothy offwhite head, dies to a decent film, laces well wihth some deeper orange glow. Aromas offer caramel and touches of toast, gentle barrel and vanilla, kiss of mellow spirit. Touches of gentle citrus, toffee, less barrel ridden than the brown on the nose. Initial is mellow, a bit toffee and dried fruit, mellow orange, some kisses of barrel, oak. Gentle mellow toastiness, carmelization, biscuits. Mellow sweetness. Middle offers touches of spirit, gentle barrel, tannins. A touch thinner, but not overdone. Gentle dryness, spirit, touches of carmelization, some toast, and mellow sweetness. A bit of dryness, touches of orange, bit of dry fruit and caramel. Pretty tasty, inoffensive yet has some firm barrel flavor. Tasty, drinkable, good barrel play. A fan, I am. A step up from the Brown for certain

Amber pour small tan head. Most aroma is the bourbon barrel some grainy notes. Avg palate. Boring drinkable flavor some bourbon on their amber.

8/10/12. On tap at the GTMW pre-party. Hazy amber pour with a nice khaki head. Light bourbon, caramel, and a hint of fruitiness on both the aroma and flavor. A tad of a letdown.

Amber brown pour into pint glass at eccentric cafe. Little to no head. Apple cider vinegar scent I agree with, maybe mixed with sweet hay or honey. A little closer to apple juice perhaps. Good medium bodied mouth feel. Tastes like amber mixed with a touch of honey. Not a lot different tasting than standard amber ale. Finish is different though. More honey on the palate and more alcohol departing with a dryer mouth feel.

On tap as of July 9. Proving that barrel aging does not make things better, this is the beer. The regular amber is pretty good but this on is just kinda blah. It has an aroma of vinegar apples and wine but the flavor is really washed out and non descript. Very faint hop profile with a malt flavor that presents itself but disappears as quickly as it arrives. Palate is like an amber but a little creamier and smoother. Not as crisp. Stop barrel aging beers. Especially the lower abv beers.
