COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This unique ale begins its life as a powerful and richly sweet stout to which Michigan tart cherries are added. The resulting black brew is complex, sweet and tart with a distinct cherry finish. It will improve with cellaring. Available September - May

Pours black with a nice tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate with a bit of tart cherry. Sweet taste of roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee and sweet cherries. Much better than I expected.

Not what I expected and not impressed from a expensive six pack (18). Aroma was thin, coppery metalic. Apperance started out looking good but no head on the beer and the little there was dissapated fast. Almost no carbonation. On the palate I got nice coffe and slight sour cherries with a good dose of heavy roast malt. Overall a good cherry stout but not hardly worth the dough.

Tart cherry juice along with a chocolaty roasted malt flavor. Pretty tart beer, not too sweet either.

Dark black pour with tan head. Slight coffee and chocolate aroma but no cherry detected. Taste is sour cherries with with a slight roastiness in the background. No bitterness at all. Very drinkable on a hot day.

Thanks to Leafs93 for this one. Pours a dark black color with a reddish-brown head. Has an inviting roasty aroma with hints of vanilla and cherry. Has a sweet roasty tasty with heavy cherry notes through the finish. A bit too much cherry for me. If the cherry was scaled back a pinch it would allow the roasty chocolate and caramel notes to come through more on the finish which would balance out the beer nicely. It’s all in the taste and I prefer Zukov’s to this. But for those that love fruit beers or cherries, this is your brew. I’m sure this is coming across as critical, but overall another tasty brew by a great brewery.

(12oz bottle). Pours black with light brown head. Aroma has plenty of coffee and dark chocolate, which predominate, with a little bit of smoke or ash. I’m not getting cherries at all in the nose. The taste, however, is different. The taste is tart cherry which off-sets the intense roasty bitterness in a clunky, but pleasant way. Thin bodied with slick texture and dry finish. I first had this beer 10 years ago and hated it. Glad to see that I can understand the play in flavors a bit better. I could see myself grabbing a 6’er of this.

Bought a 6 pack from the Brass Mug in Farmington, MI. Poured into glass. Not a particularly tall head, but decent and a nice tan color. Beer itself is very dark. I was looking for something easily drinkable and wasn’t feeling very optimistic from its sour smell. Taste confirmed that it had a pretty sour cherry taste, although it did have a pretty good coffee aftertaste. Not exactly what I was hoping for, especially from a Bells product. I ended up pouring the 2nd half of it down the sink. Still have 5 bottles left that I guess I’ll keep around and hope it hits the spot during a warmer time of the year. At $20 for a 6 pack, I definitely wouldn’t buy it again, especially when Bells has so many other great products.

Bottle @ home. Deep black appearance with a small dark brown head. Slightly sour cherry, dark roasted, chocolate malty nose with some alcohol. Somewhat sour cherry, dark, fairly thick chocolate malty flavor. Pretty thick, slightly syrupy mouth feel. Slightly fruity, mostly roasty malty aftertaste.
