SDalkoholic (1186), Chula Vista, California, USA Jan 25, 2009 Bottle from California Bottles. Has a decent amount of cherry in the aroma but in general the darkly roast malt play the part. Stout is a perfectly shade of dark brown with a thin layer of film. The flavor is tart with light aftertaste of sourness and taste of sugar with only moderate amount of roast malt. RedXIII (127), Powell, Ohio, USA Jan 25, 2009 There was just too much cherry flavor in this for me. Very tart cherry flavor that would have been better if it was a little sweeter. This stout was unfortunately one-dimensional. Nice roasty malt finish to balance it out, but the tart cherries were just too much to put this Bell’s offering in with the elite. dnlsartin (68), Portland, Oregon, USA Jan 23, 2009 Beautiful, silky black with a brown sugar head. Sweet, cherry cola aroma. Surprisingly sour. Its tartness a bit overwhelming for the dark malts. A contradiction that could work with a nice chocolate finish. discogoatboy (15), , Florida, USA Jan 23, 2009 The cherry flavor was pretty strong, and there was a hint of roast once you got past the cherry. It was a bit too sweet for my tastes. LilBeerDoctor (1480), East Setauket, New York, USA Jan 21, 2009 Bottle, batch 8730 (9/16/08). Pours black with a small dark tan head that fades quickly. Aroma of rich roasted malt, slight roasted nuts/coffee, and bitter chocolate. Flavor is initially quite sweet with sour cherry notes. Roasty finish. Flavor is a touch medicinal, especially as you continue to drink. Solid malt backbone though. Pretty good stout but gets a little tart/medicinal at times.
7/4/7/4/15 (3.7/5) wetherel (1565), Encinitas, California, USA Jan 20, 2009 Black. Small head. A little tart cherry. Some roastiness. A hint of sweetness. Nice. Lans (19), , Kentucky, USA Jan 19, 2009 12 oz bottle
Pours a dark ruby brown with a thin reddish-brown head that quickly dissipates. Nose contains dark chocolate, sour cherries, and hints of tobacco. Sour cherry tones dominate the flavor, with hints of tobacco smoke, dark chocolate and a nice, smooth malty finish. Just a tiny hint of residual sugar is present, which keeps the cherries from being overwhelmingly tart. Mouthfeel is moderately thick with a very smooth feel. Overall, an excellent beer, and one of the best cherry-themed beers I’ve tried. zer0crew (60), Duluth, Minnesota, USA Jan 19, 2009 Updated: Mar 19, 2009Bottle. Pours a deep ruby-brown. Has a slight head, but it doesn’t last that long. Definite aroma of cherries. Has a very cherry-bitter finish to it. It’s good but it’s a definite surprise!
