| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 6, 2008 12 oz bottle. Was a little disappointed with this one. Was not particularly malty, as I expected, nor was the cherry presence strong enough to warrant this being anything special. Underwhelming in just about every sense, yet not so drinkable to be a session beer or anything like that. Some coffee, a good bit of bitterness, and a slight lingering cherry impression. Would like to see this amped up quite a bit. Miksu (2218), Jyväskylä, Finland
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 2, 2008 12 oz bottle at Akkurat, Stockholm. Sweetish, roasty, fruity and leathery aroma. Roasty and coffeish flavor with strong tart cherry taste. Exotic combination of coffee and tart cherries. Nice to try but I still prefer plain stout. bretupdegraff (172), Fishers, Indiana, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Sep 30, 2008 Pours dark with a slight brown head. aroma is Malty and sweet. Flavor is not what I expected... Flavor starts with a tart cherry chocolate maltyness as the carbonation thickens the mouthfeel I start to notice a little coffee/roasty flavor with a nice bitter ending that brings out a bit more of the Cherry flavor that brings me right into a sour stout aftertaste - Very nice
I will have to come back to this brew and rerate but I like this very much. BrewCzar (108), St Louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 22, 2008 Bottle pours nearly black with a small dissipating brown head. Aroma is sweet, chocolate, dark dried fuits, and woody notes. The flavor begins with sweet sugary notes of figs and cherries with roasted malts followed by the tartness of sour cherries which dominates the flavor with burnt undertones. jeff789 (384), Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Sep 22, 2008 I was expecting this beer to be a sort of culmination of two of my favorite beer flavors... I love the tart cherry flavor common in sour ales, and the roastiness of stouts... This was an utter disappointment. The two ideas, while in theory are quite interesting, did not meld together cohesively... It is definitely worth trying, just maybe not twice... cbeers21 (564), Miami, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 21, 2008 Brown black with fading head. Cherry pie pilling is only observed after carefully wading through chocolate and toasted mocha coffe scents. Spent coffee grounds and light vanilla sugars have also made themselves known in the olfactory. The taste begins with a chocolate coffee bittering abruptness but quickly mutates into a sweetened tart cherry pie taste which is the first evidence of the fruit in the taste. This brew seems to have 3 distinct personalities, all of which are good but the transistion between them is rocky. although interesting. I liked this one. brew4fun (168), West Virginia, USA
| 1.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 5/20 | Sep 20, 2008 12oz bottle. Pour is black, minimal tan head disappears quickly. Zero lace. Aroma is roasted malt and licorice. Taste is licorice overwhelmed by bitter sour cherry. Palate puckering, medium body. Does not taste like a stout. Honestly I would choose a macro pale lager over this any day. Managed to choke it down, but would not do so again. Ever. kosko20 (302), Bemidji, Minnesota, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 20, 2008 Aroma has a distinct cherry scent, obviously, with sweet malt background. Appearance is a very nice dark, dark brown with a tint of red on the rim. Head is dark tan/brown that dissipates to thin layer across the top and leaves a nice lacing around the glass all the way down. Flavor is sweet cherry with chocolate and malt backgrounds. The mouthfeel is smooth and warm bodied and the finish is sweet...very sweet....too sweet for my liking. This brew is good in some aspects and it follows the definition of a sweet stout, but for my likings of beers, sweet is alright but it can be taken a little too far and this one is taken a bit far with the sweetness.
