Burrobuns (80), Columbia, Missouri, USA Jun 11, 2008 Good but not great. A bit of an embarrassment for Bells, esp considering it is one of their more expensive offerings. Cherry just makes the stout worse, instead of adding to it. daknole (2802), Plantation, Florida, USA Jun 11, 2008 Well I have been waiting to try this for awhile and it is very interesting. Not my favorite Bells, but VERY good. Black pour with a small brown head. Do I smell chocolate covered cherries? Flavor is chocolate with some tartness. cherries add an interesting note for sure...now someone hook me up with the Bourbon aged version! AmEricanbrew (1747), Louisiana, USA Jun 11, 2008 Bottle batch 8152. Black with a brown head. Mild roasted malt aroma with cherry soda. Smooth medium body. Decent flavor is mainly cherry juice which seems to squash and sour, rather than compliment a nice stout flavor here. tedovertu (259), Apple Valley, Minnesota, USA Jun 8, 2008 Bottle, Very unique taste. Tastes like dark chocolate covered cherrys. Darker brown head with good lacing. Mostly lasting head. Heavy sweet flavor that lasts to the very end. Medium to full bodied with an almost oily texture. Very astringent. HDane (81), Chesapeake, Virginia, USA Jun 8, 2008 Very dark pour, sparse tan head. Aroma of black cherries, chocolate, prunes, and some faint traces of aloohol. Flavor is overall sour - cherries, dark chocolate. Mouthfeel is fairly light. fiver29 (703), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Jun 6, 2008 Bottle pours black with a tan head. Has a nice aroma that puts forth chocolate, cherries, and some malt. Has a nice medium mouthfeel to it with a more chocolate cherry flavor to it with some alcohol. Overall a nice brew. mvcramer (229), Arlington, Massachusetts, USA Jun 5, 2008 I love stouts. And I have homebrewed a few cherry and cherry vanilla stouts, so I know how tough it is to balance that malty sweetness with the tartness of good Michigan cherries.
This one was good, but not exceptional. Beautiful pour - deep almost black color and foamy tan/brown head. Aroma was a bit milder than I would have hoped for. Flavor was a bit skewed too much to the cherry tartness, in my humble opinion.
I liked this. I love what Bells does. I didn’t LOVE this one. But I would definitely order it again. Aurelius (2643), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Jun 2, 2008 Slightly pickled black forest cake aroma. Clear, very dark, wispy tan head which fades quickly, pretty good label, standard US longneck bottle. Tart, medium astringency, medium sweetness. Medium bodied, this finishes out with a disjointed kriek/coffee/bitter chocolate/dubbel battle of the overtones. OK, distinctive, but not my favorite. Market Square Liquors, Killearn.
