inkubus27 (237), Highland, Indiana, USA Mar 9, 2008 Kindof a thin stout, teeny tiny dark brown head that dissipates quickly. Smells of cherries and roasted malt. Taste is great, sweet and mildly roasty with hints of the cherry flavor. Aftertaste is wonderful. This went down way too fast. If you like sweet beers this is worth a try! mgoy (343), Oak Brook, Illinois, USA Mar 5, 2008 Bells Cherry Stout is a black beer with a very small brown head. When looking at the right angle, you can see a redish tint in the color of the beer. The aroma is sweet and the flavor is even sweeter.
While the falvor was interesting, it was so sweet that it made me feel a bit sick with each drink. I would like to celler this ale for a year and retry, I did not like it very much when I had it tonight. thegreenrooster (1811), St.louis, Missouri, USA Mar 4, 2008 Pour is a black with a little red around the edges. Aroma is a nice mix of chocolate and cherries with a nice sweetness. Flavor is something different. Way over the top cherry that overpowers any other flavor this beer might have. Finish is very bitter and sour. Not my cup of tea when it comes to beer and finishing this one might be a chore. Speedle (262), Mid-Atlantic (Tour 2007-2008), Virginia, USA Mar 4, 2008 chocolate malt and sweet fruit aroma ... cherry, caramel some smoke in the flavor ... very smooth drinking and the cherries are fruity and lightly sweet, not like the taste of some cherry beers (cough drops) ... this is a great beer ... very pleased with this one RCL (1443), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA Mar 2, 2008 Interesting fresh cherry skin and juice flavor with a lengthly lightly tart finish. A bit like a chocolate covered sour cherry. grandridge (222), Port Clinton, Ohio, USA Feb 29, 2008 pours dark brown out of a twelve oz bottle with hardly any head. Aroma of cherries and chocolate. Wow what a strange beer, very tart cherry flavor that gets stronger from front to back and leaves a sour flavor in your mouth. I guess I was hoping for sweeter cherries. The tart cherries and sour aftertaste make this beer not enjoyable. Hoptagon (132), Arlington, Virginia, USA Feb 28, 2008 12oz. Bottle. Pours a rich brown color with a very thin tan head. Roasted character of this stout seems to be dialed down a bit from some of their other offerings. Chocolate malt is evident as well as a bit of smoky caramel flavor. The finish is of dark cherries and is predominantly tart. Almost no hop character is noticeable, although there are plenty of hops to keep the beer from being too sweet. The sour cherry flavor gives the beer a bit of a Belgian vibe. Overall unique, and the flavor sticks with your palate long after you’ve finished the bottle. dmtroyer (409), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 27, 2008 12oz. Pours dark brown with a minuscule tan head. Nose is fairly subdued, even after it warms. Flavor profile is extremely interesting, and if nothing else fairly original. Getting a fair amount of tart cherry (think unflavored lambic) with some wood and smoke. Mouthfeel is a bit thin, but there’s some crazy lactic acid action that keeps the palate coated for a long finish. I love Michigan cherries and the idea of using a product local to the beer’s production.
