Commercial Description:
This unique ale begins its life as a powerful and richly sweet stout to which Michigan tart cherries are added. The resulting black brew is complex, sweet and tart with a distinct cherry finish. It will improve with cellaring. Available September - May

12 oz. bottle...Pours a black w/ a diminishing tan head...Aromas of coffee, chocolate...Flavors of sour cherry, smooth dark chocolate, and coffee. For a stout this was very drinkable and almost refreshing. The sourness was prevalent and the hops were barely noticable. Very smooth on the front and tart on the back palate. Delicious!

12oz bottle. Poured opaque with a quickly diminishing tan head. Great nose of sour cherries, cocoa, coffee and roasted malts. Not as much cherry flavor as I expected. Overall a good brew.

Pours black with a thin tan head. Good lacing. Sweet fruity aroma, roasted malt, chocolate, and a touch of coffee. Thinner than I expected, but not watery. Flavor is good but the cherries are a little too tart. Finishes with a distinct twanginess. No hop profile to speak of. I like sweet stouts but this one has deviated from its category IMHO. However, overall a very good, creative brew. Definityely worth trying.

Black with a tan head. Chocolate and roasty aroma. Tastes like a stout combined with a cherry coke. Odd, but decent.

Bottle. Pours in black with a creamy beige head. The aroma is sweetly malty with notes of hops and some dark vinous fruit. The flavor is big, malty with sour cherries playing against an almost cloying sweetness. Some of the usual stout flavors are here in the background (espresso, liquorice) but they are bit players. This was very different and although it is not something I would have in any volume I appreciate the complexity on display here.

Bottle: Pours very dark with a smalll head. Aroma of chocoate and cherries. Flavor is same as aroma. I really did not like the combo, but it was not bad.

The aroma is first cherries and then malty. The aroma was not as mighty as I hoped it would be. The color of the pour was like a nice cup of coffee, with a tan head. The flavor was similar to how it is advertised--a stout with a cherry finish; however, I did not find it to be very powerful or rich. The mouthfeel was a little thin, but I thoroughly enjoyed it for this particular beer. All in all I think it’s the perfect Valentine’s day beer, encompassing all the sweet and bitter notes of l’amour, and a great compliment to a big heart-shaped box of chocolates, whether it’s shared or hoarded.
