KingpinIPA (842), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Jul 14, 2007 Dark reddish brown color. Smell of malt, tart cherries, roasted coffee, nutty, chocolate and gummy brears. Taste of Chocolate, roasted coffee bean, dark prunes, cherries, bread, alcohol, malt and some hops. It almost tastes like cough syrup. Different but good. luckygirl (1221), Boulder, Colorado, USA Jul 13, 2007 Batch 7674. Beer is very dark, opaque brown with a small, light brown, creamy, quickly and mostly diminishing head.
The aroma is malty with moderate notes of roasted grain, chocolate milk, light shortbread; Hoppy with light herbal resin/pine notes; Yeasty with light/moderate notes of basement; Light miscellaneous notes of tart cherry, vanilla, spicy cola.
The flavor is light/moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter with a long, moderately bitter, light/moderately acidic, lightly sweet finish.
The body is medium, the texture is watery/velvety and the carbonation is soft/lively.
Don’t like the creamy malt/tart fruit combination. Seems like it should be on the verge of curdling itself Ernest (4481), Boulder, Colorado, USA Jul 13, 2007 Bottle (batch 7674). Head is initially small, frothy, brown, mostly diminishing. Body is opaque black (flashlight tested). Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (roasted grain, dark chocolate), with a light note of cherry. Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, creamy texture, lively carbonation. Good appearance and mouthfeel, but there’s really not much to the aroma and the blend of sour and bitter is not particularly pleasant. Not a fan. KieferUGA (461), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jul 11, 2007 Bottle courtesy of alexanderj. Pours thick and dark. Slight hint of coffee aroma. Can’t miss the wonderful cherry flavoring. Finishes rather dry with little hint of alcohol. Beerdedone (1873), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 7, 2007 Bottle sampled. Pours a motor oil black with a small tan head. Aroma of sour cherries, chocolate malt, and some coffee. Flavor is dark chocolate, tart cherries, and roasted malt, very smooth and full-bodied with a tart cherry finish. An awesome sweet stout Sammy (3934), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 5, 2007 At Beer Bistro’s US fest. Pours a dark colour with a little pink lacing on glass. Appropriate and full-mouthed carbonation. More cherry cola than anything else, on the sweet side. Chocolate secondary. A novelty stout.I DMRz (218), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jun 22, 2007 Reddish dark black color with a medium dark brown head. Aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, and amaretto liqueur. This beer is quite nice, to me like one of Bell’s always good stouts mixed with a nice kriek. Worth a try, although not in the same league as the expedition stout... frankenkitty (1900), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA Jun 22, 2007 Pours an inky, reddish/blackish/brown with a short-lived mocha head. Cherry NyQuil and coffee aroma with rich milk chocolate notes. Tart cherries fill the mouth, but a roasty bitterness is quick to follow. Slick mouth finishes dry. Alcohol joins in late, and as the cherries linger I am once again left with the impression of NyQuil. Low metallics. Not bad, but I’m not as impressed as I thought I’d be.
