Maria (6056), Thisted, Denmark Jun 15, 2007 It’s a pitch black beer with a rapidly vanishing, nougat head. The aroma has notes of coffee, licorice and berries. The mouthfeel is rather oily. The flavour has a distinct berry-acidity, notes of licorice, coffee and a sourish finish, where I get notes of cocktail berries. It’s a nice cherry stout, thank you Linus Stick for this one!! 2328
tytoanderso (1382), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA Jun 8, 2007 Bottle. Pours pennzoil black. Motor oil like viscosity. Smells of freshly laid tar. Cherry? Really? Where? Smells smoky. Creamy palate. Tastes of smoked wood. Hint of sour cherries develops after a while. This is a beer that needs to open. Quite rich and malty. Not a huge fan. mistersinalin (367), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Jun 2, 2007 Updated: Jun 6, 2007Wow, what a desert beer. Make sure and let this one get close to room temperature before drinking. You’ll get more of the cherry flavor that way. shrubber85 (2833), Wallhalben, Germany Jun 1, 2007 Bottle. Deep dark chocolate, sharp coffee and black cherry aroma. Black-brown color with small tan head. Tart cherry primarily with lesser flavor of chocolate malt and burnt coffee. Tartness is a stark contrast to the smooth malt flavor and overpowers it somewhat. leeburg (146), Juneau, Alaska, USA May 31, 2007 I also thought this would be a stout with cherry flavors, but it was more like a strong sweet/tart cherry drink with some stout characteristics. Like other raters have mentioned, this isn’t a stout-lover’s stout, but nor is it something a fruity drink-lover would enjoy. The cherry overwhelmed the roastiness and complexity that I look for. mgumby10 (1844), Jupiter, Florida, USA May 30, 2007 Pours an oily black with an off white head, bubbles hugging the edges of the glass the whole way. I get a bunch of roasty chocolate in the nose, with a touch of cherry, but not a whole lot. The taste is pretty unique. Definitely sweet from the cherry, but roasty and thick at the same time. Definitely get more sweetness than anything and I wish it wasnt quite as sweet. I wish it had more stout characters other than being dark. SoLan (1369), Orlando, Florida, USA May 30, 2007 Courtesy mgumby10. Black/brown with brown edges and a small tan cap. Ruby hues when swirled. Roasty malt, dark chocolate, modest amount of resinous hops, and subtle cherries in the aroma. Tastes like a Bell’s stout blended with cherry juice, a little syrupy sweet. Good, but not really working for me. Medium body of a beer/juice blend. Drinkable. chimpscampee (556), Madison, Wisconsin, USA May 28, 2007 Far better than New Glarus Cherry Stout since the Cherry flavor doesn’t overwhelm the brew. You get bombarded with sweet, dry, and bitter shouts all at about the same time. I assumed it would be cloying but it was not.
