I was expecting a full stout with some cherry notes. What I got was a mess of fruit punch and watery beer. Unfortunately, I have 5 bottles of this stuff left, so maybe I’ll give it a re-rate when I’m feeling more open-minded. stegosaurus (1882), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA

Pours dark with red hues, and a dark cola colored head. Aroma of roasted malts and cherries. The flavor is a lot of roast and tart cherries. coog brew. Sombeast (151), Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 20, 2007 Served in a snifter. An aggressive pour yielded a opaque black liquid with a bold 2+ finger dark tan head. Aroma is suble, with a mild roast malt and almost imperceptible cherry character. The flavor has a mild roasted malt dominating, while I can feel a bit of sour cherry juice slipping about between my teeth. Mouthfeel is rich and smooth, but the finish is a bit astringent, and somewhat slick in nature. A little lacing is present. MadIndian (994), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 19, 2007 Bottle from Capones. Sampled with stegosaurus. Brown pour with a red hue. Aroma of cherry and roasted malt. The warmer it got the more cherry you tasted. Smooth flavor and basically a good brew. Not the best stout from Bells but a good one. michael-pollack (2661), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 8, 2007 12oz. Bottle: Moderately sweet aroma. Smells of cherries, roasted malts, caramel, and alcohol, as well as a little chocolate and coffee. Poured dark dark black with a reddish hue. Small dark brown head diminished almost instantly. No lacing. Opaque. Flavor is medium sweet and lightly tart. Starts with tart cherries, which are followed by sweet, roasty malts and a little chocolate. Medium to full body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, roasted malt finish. Overall, a different, but good, sweet stout. zebracakes (1214), Washington DC, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 7, 2007 Bottle. Pours dark black brown--I can’t see any light through the liquid. Tan head. Aroma is chocolate, malt, cherry (actually cherry, not cough syrup cherry), molasses, pine. Flavor is smoky, molasses, pine, chocolate, coffee. There’s a subtle fruit sensation on the back of the tongue. madscotsman (147), Fairview Heights, Illinois, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 29, 2007 Bottle, served cold. Poured a nice color black with a tiny tan-colored head. The smell was a mixture of malts, chocolate, and cherries. I’d been anticipating my first taste of this stout for ages, and I was not disappointed. It is very smooth and drinkable, and the cherry flavor is moderate - definitely noticeable. It’s not the best stout Bell’s brews, but even so it’s still better than many, many other stouts. Overall, it is a fine drink and a rare treat.
