smashteroid (227), USA Apr 29, 2007 Bottle, served cold. Poured a nice color black with a tiny tan-colored head. The smell was a mixture of malts, chocolate, and cherries. I’d been anticipating my first taste of this stout for ages, and I was not disappointed. It is very smooth and drinkable, and the cherry flavor is moderate - definitely noticeable. It’s not the best stout Bell’s brews, but even so it’s still better than many, many other stouts. Overall, it is a fine drink and a rare treat. troyc (1173), Lubbock, Texas, USA Apr 28, 2007 (Bottle) Pours inky black with a small brown head. Cherry in the aroma. Taste is similar. The tart cherry notes blended very nicely with coffee and some chocolate in the malt. Overall mouthfeel was crisp and dry. More drinkable than many of the other Bell’s stouts. A very good brew! mkofron (155), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Apr 24, 2007 Pours black with brown head. Cherries dominate the aroma. Tartness from the cherries very apparent. I will cellar a bottle to see how it ages. Crafty07 (391), Florence, Kentucky, USA Apr 23, 2007 Updated: May 25, 2008Thick black pour from a 12oz bottle, Bells again impresses with a well made beer that tastes of dark chocolate cherries that remains a well crafted beer that doesnt’ fall into a gimmicky mess. Excellent desert beer. Funknmilla (577), Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 19, 2007 Gorgeous on the pour, dark dark brown with red highlights...looks silky....brown sugar foam dissipates into just an essence on the edge of the glass...rich mocha smell, baking chocolate, not overwhelming with the aroma....typical stout aromas as well...tart tart, uh tart...cherry definite!....silky texture, cherry said get out of the way stout, just a touch of baking chocolate shows through on the taste...."One of the most unusual stouts I’ve ever had, me likey!" TURDFERGUSON (1594), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Apr 15, 2007 Batch 7777. Bottle courtesy of my father from his recent trip to MI. Thanks Pops! Pour is dark brown with a light tan head that fades quickly. It may be my imagination but I also See some reddish undertones in the appearance. Nose is a very pleasent combination of tart cherries, roasted malts, and little else. Flavor is sweet and roasty, with cherty juice lingering to and fro. Not as thick as other Bell’s stouts, but in my opinion, it is not supposed to be like those. Cherries are just subtle enought not to overpower the chocolate and roasted malt goodness of the sweet stout, but present enough to make a positive impact on the flavor profile at large. Alcohol is well hidden too. I love the taste this leaves in my mouth. This is like nothing I have ever tasted before and I commend Larry and the peeps at Bell’s for brewing this. Have one more bottle than I intend to age for as long as I can. BeerVirgin72 (778), Pataskala, Ohio, USA Apr 15, 2007 Poured from bottle...Dark brown very thin head. Smelled of sweet cherries...Taste was really wild...Sweet cherry, then tart and sour, finished with the bitter coffee...I really wanted to like this one more, but the bitter coffee and the cherry just didnt blend well for me... holdenn (1431), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 9, 2007 12 oz bottle thanks to my SS. Pours a black brwon with a thin head. Coffee aroma yeast chocolate a hint of fruit. Creamy smooth body leads to cherry chocolate and roast flavors, a little sweet with some sour tart fruit. It is reminding me of the sour DuClaw Black Jack stout, but this has more fruit and I enjoy it more. A nice brew.
