horsemen16 (6), Conway, Arkansas, USA does not count Feb 24, 2007 This is defiinately one of the most unique brews I have had the pleasure of tasting. I was expecting something a little more sweet and fruity. Instead I encountered a sea of wild tart cherries, but blended beautifully with the sweetness of rest of the beer’s body. Pours beautifully and smells of real wild cherries. Everyone needs to try this one. Delicious! Cletus (5001), Connecticut, USA Feb 21, 2007 Pours brown with a 1/4 finger’s head that turns from an initial dark reddish to tan. Smells of cherries, chocolate, caramel and earthy. Taste is a decent blend of cherries and nuttiness with a bit of a medicinal finish. jason (1620), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 20, 2007 Bottle. Poured a dark body with huge head. Aroma is of malt and tart cherries. Flavor is of tart cherries, malt and a decent carbonation. Very sweet but balanced and made me burp up a taste like a cherry soda. Good beer, was impressed. Hollywoodt (174), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA Feb 17, 2007 Pours a dark brown color with a minimal tan head. The aroma was sweet, dark malt with a hint of the cherries. The flavor was roasted malt with a nice tart cherry flavor that wasn’t overwhelming. A great brew. Get in my belly! Hawksfan17 (717), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 16, 2007 Pours black as night with a think mocha head. Smells sweet of chocolate and cherries. It has a rich and light mocha flavor followed by sweet cherry in the finish. It goes down smooth and leaves a tart aftertaste. kenb (1100), Oregon, USA Feb 15, 2007 12 oz bottle via csbosox (thanks!).Pours a pitch black with a small tan head. Nose is cherries, cherries and more cherries..nothing else. Well ok..maybe a little port/sherry. Wow, this is the most cherry taste i have experienced since New Glarus Cherry Stout. Unfortunately it does not work as well here as it does with theirs. The cherries and the chocolate/roasted malts do not blend well, as it comes off similar to an oygenated beer. Just too rough. Medium carbonation. medium mouthfeel. duff (5474), Surrey, Greater London, England Feb 15, 2007 Bottle. Black in colour. Noticabel cherry on the nose aswell as the roastyness from the stout. Palate is sweet at first with cherry notes coming through, but these are probably a little more tart than sweet. Somehow the tarness blends very well with the roasty malt notes (also shows some licorice notes). Mocha/coffee notes blend in nicely aswell. I thought this was interesting, with a nice balance. Really liked it. BDR (2139), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Feb 14, 2007 Updated: Feb 24, 2007The brown head dissappeared rather quickly. After a year in the cellar, the nose has mellowed out a bit, but still very cherry with the faintest hint of chocolate (or my palate could be shot from the pint of Arcadia Cocoa Loco i just downed ;) ). The sweet cherry comes through nicely with a woody flavor at the end.
Ok. I just tried a fresh bottle and this one needs to age a while. Almost no discernable cherry this year, rather with lots of smoke and chocolate. Not bad, but it’ll be interesting to taste this one in 12 months and see where this goes given it’s very different base.
