3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: NOV 6, 2013 Bottle: completely black, opaque body with a deep tan head that is slow to form & slow to fall. Aroma is mostly sweet cherry juice with a mild undercurrent of milk chocolate, faint coffee, & light, finishing roast. I think the cherries distract from some of the robustness of the stout. Taste is a quick hit of roasted malt followed immediately by tart cherry juice... not quite sour or puckering, but exceedingly tart for a stout. Slight acidity in the finish with a touch of medicinal notes in the aftertaste. Sweet cherry finish with only a faint hint of dark cocoa & roasty malt. The sharp acidity & slight medicinal flavors can be a little distracting at times... It does get better with warmth, however, as the medicinal flavors fade & the authentic cherry tartness integrates into the stout more effectively.

Pours a charcoal black with a red tint. Little to no head and very slight lacing. Rich cherry aroma with chocolate. The taste is sour cherries up front and the chocolate lingers with some roast as an aftertaste. It is definitely tart and sour tasting. If you are looking for a sweet stout this is not it. Not bad but not what I expected. Very interesting. I enjoyed it but it’s not for every one.

Backlog. 12 oz bottle from Total Wine & More - Gilbert, AZ. Black appearance with a brown head. Roasted malts, cherry juice, dark fruits, chocolate and light coffee. Medium body. Kind of like drinking a chocolate covered cherry.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz bottle served in a tulip glass. The beer pours an opaque black with a thin tan head that has hints of ruby as well, especially on the lacing, which is average. I give it above average just because the dark red colors that show up in the head are pretty cool in my opinion. Aroma is roasted barley, coffee, cocoa, and a creamy sweetness. Not really getting cherries though. Taste is very tart up front. Cherries are there for sure, and linger on and sweeten up a bit in the aftertaste. There are also roasted malt and barley, bakers chocolate, and some coffee flavors as well. Overall mouthfeel is creamy at first, than dry. I like this one. It’s interesting and different, although the cherry is a bit overdone on the palate.

Smells nice, mainly roasty notes in the aroma with a hint of cherry. Completely black with a long lasting thick brown head, pretty. Tastes great, lots of nice tart cherry flavor. Upfront some sour cherry tartness, finishes with a dark maltyness, chocolate notes, sweet cherry notes. Long cherry finish. Medium bodied and average carbonation. Great cherry stout.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured an ink black colour with a thin coffee brown head that left no lacing. Aroma is notes roasted and coffee malt a faint hint of dark fruit. Flavor is where the cherry tartness is quite present and well balanced with the roasted malt flavor. Medium bodied with little carbonation that ends with a sweet finish and a cherry flavor that lingers.
