This unique ale begins its life as a powerful and richly sweet stout to which Michigan tart cherries are added. The resulting black brew is complex, sweet and tart with a distinct cherry finish. It will improve with cellaring. Available September - May

Not incredibly thrilled with this Bell’s offering. Pours nearly black with thin mocha head. Aroma is predominantly roasted malt with just a whiff of cherries. I like the idea of the fruit-tinged stout, but this one tastes a little off. Heavy roasted malt backbone, burnt coffee grinds, super tart cherry. For me, the tartness of the cherries just didn’t groove well with the roasty, overly bitter backbone of this brew. Ho-hum.

Bottle at the hotel room in San Diego. Opaque black beer with a nice beige head. Malty caramel aroma, cherries, chocolate, some licorice. Cherry flavor, licorice, chocolate, caramel, chinos, some raisins. Decent but on the sweet side with lots of cherries coming through.

Way too sweet for me. A good stout but the cherries were too much in it for my liking. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours black with small brown head. Aroma of cherry cola, roasty, chocolate. Flavor roasted malt coffee, chocolate, finished with cherries. More fresh cherries vs cola flavor. Its leaves bitterness and sour flavor. Overlll not bad was expecting more

I don’t really know how to categorize this beer, it’s sweet and lightly tart and fruity but also a bit roasty/cocoa heavy. Not too bad.

Bottle. Really awesome. Black coffee stout with tart cherry juice on the finish. Perfectly blended. Big and bold overall. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours jet black with receding ivory head. Aroma is cherries and malts, but with a heavy yeasty scent that detracts; maybe just a bad bottle? Taste is loads of cherries, malts, a bitter chocolate. Solid. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Type: 12-oz. bottle Glass: Karl Strauss 26th anniversary snifter glass From: Palm Springs Liquor in La Mesa (San Diego), Calif. Price: $2.99 Purchased: June 14, 2015 Consumed: June 19, 2015 Misc.: Born on Nov. 6, 2014 Poured a pitch black color with 1-to-2 fingers of dark tan, frothy head, that thinned out rather quickly. Light amount of foamy lacing on the sides of the glass. Below average retention on the top all the way down. (Sight - 3.50) First smell was dark chocolate, coffee and roast malts. Second go around was dark cherry, cherry nuts, cherry wood, dark cocoa, chocolate milkshake and toffee. Not as pronounced cherry as I would have thought though. (Smell - 3.75) Tasted a little better than the nose, but not as good as I was hoping. Got dark chocolate, roasty malts, smoky fire, tart black cherries, toffee, caramel, chocolate covered cherries, chocolate milk, fudge, toffee, caramel, faint Ben & Jerry’s Cherry Garcia and dark cranberry. (Taste - 3.88) Full-to-medium body. Sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth finish. Best part of beer by far. (Feel - 4.50) I have to say I was disappointed overall. I did like it, just not as much as I thought I would. I’d still have it again. (Overall - 3.88) 3.90 88 B+
