I started out hating it, but it started to grow on me. Now my singles almost gone and I am pretty sad. I was in a stout mood, and this is definitely not a beer for that. Itís itís own thing. Itís sweet, not really stouty at all... Itís got almost a wine or hard cider taste. Itís pretty good... Iíd get it again.

Aromas of roast, tart cherry, bitter dark chocolate. Black with ruby highlights, mostly lasting light tan head. Dried tart cherry fruitiness, roasty. Full bodied.

Pours murky dark brown almost black with a mocha colored head. Dark roasted malt aroma with coffee, cocoa and cherries at the end. Roasted malt start with cocoa and light molasses followed with tart cherries and finishing with roasted smokiness. The cherry flavor you can tell is from real cherries, I have had some cherry beers that taste like artificial flavoring so that is a bonus.

12oz bottle pours a dark brown/black with a large reddish tan head. Aroma of chocolate and dry roasted malt with some sweet and tart cherry. Taste dry roasted malt with a hit of chocolate and molasses, then sweet and tart cherry juice and finishing with more dry roasted malt and a nice bitterness. Tasty!

Pours a dark black with a short lasting small tan head. Aroma of malt, phenols and a hint of cocoa. I did not get any cherry in the aroma. Creamy feel with a taste of coffee and malt with a hint of black cherries. Slightly phenolic finish.

Pretty great aroma, lots of cherry up front with a little hint of stout in background. Itís actually a pretty balanced aroma of both, maybe a little too much cherry. Dark in color with a reddish hue seen in the head. Stout flavors of chocolate and roasted malt come through and are quickly killed by a sour cherry flavor that tings the tongue. Itís almost similar to a stout-like sour beer, but not as complex, nor not nearly as sour. I wasnít expecting so much tart character with this beer. Medium-Low carbonation, medium body, lasting pucker-finish. Overall: The beer is worth trying; I donít think I could finish a four-pack of it in one sitting though. Iím wondering if a well aged example would bring out more malt character and leave the cherries in the background.

Rating this beer fresh, with further comments on the aged. Pour is near black with a lively head that doesnít stick around. Aroma is roast, coffee, some bitter chocolate and a hint of cherry juice. Taste is somewhat muted, roast with a bittersweet chocolate that mingles with a nicely tart cherry. Slightly thin. Decent, but not overly impressive. *Aged One Year* Pours an almost black color with a massive khaki head that turns into a beautiful foam ring. Aromas of slight roast, burn sugar, slight molasses, aromatic coffee, sweet dark chocolate and a hint of cherry. This beer is still slightly thin, but seems to have gained a little something over the year. Both were bottled 10/8, just one year apart (13 and 14 respectively). Up front the taste is milk chocolate mingling with some roasted notes. A nice tart cherry asserts itself and then takes a back seat to a clean finishing roasted malt/ coffee roast note. Yummy! Aged version 3.9

12 oz bottle. Pours a deep brown with very little head. Chocolate, roasted malt, some coffee, with a tart, almost sour finish. Not bad.

10/25/2014. From bottle. Bells make some of the best stouts out there, but this is not one of them. The aromas are roasted malt and chocolate. Flavors similar with lots of dark chocolate, but the tart, acidic and almost metallic finish throws it off balance.
