The brown head dissappeared rather quickly. After a year in the cellar, the nose has mellowed out a bit, but still very cherry with the faintest hint of chocolate (or my palate could be shot from the pint of Arcadia Cocoa Loco i just downed ;) ). The sweet cherry comes through nicely with a woody flavor at the end. Ok. I just tried a fresh bottle and this one needs to age a while. Almost no discernable cherry this year, rather with lots of smoke and chocolate. Not bad, but it’ll be interesting to taste this one in 12 months and see where this goes given it’s very different base.

Pours oil black with a small tan head. Aroma is definitely roasted chocolate malt and cherry. Pleasantly surprised that the cherries smell real yet not too overwhelming. A bit of smokiness as well. Flavor starts out with a bang of tartness from the cherry that is very nice and refreshing. The cherry mellows through the swallow and the sweet roasted malts give the chocolate and coffee balance. Very easy finish that tastes warming and smooth. Medium-full body and low to average carbonation. I was pleasantly surprised with this beer. I think they managed to balance the flavors well, better than other fruit beers I have had, and if you appreciate tartness it is even better.

Poured a reddish, purple dark. The head was reddish/brownish as well. Had a well balanced taste of cherry, chocolate and a clear roasted aftertaste. A definite suprise stout, pleasing to the palate. The extra cherry flavor is very enjoyable and make it a very interesting stout.

pours black with thin tan head. aroma is tart cherries, coffee, bitter chocolate, and roast malt. drinks very tart cherries upfront with some coffee and chocolate making there way in before the cherries are gone. makes for a good drink, but im also going to age some and see how it does. good stout though.

Draft. Pours pitch black with a creamy, dark brown head. Pretty powerful nose full of dark cherries, dry roasted malt, a little coffee, and some booze. Medium-low carbonation with a rich mouthfeel. This one is definitely confusing. At first you get a nice, sweet stout on the tip of your tongue, then BANG! a big pile of sour cherries. Lots of big tart dark cherries, coffee, chocolate, earth, and mineral on the palate. Talk about bizarre. It’s like a sour and a sweet stout mixed together. Medium-short, slightly dry finish. Very entertaining to have once, but I am not sure I would want this on a consistent basis.

12oz bottle. Pours a dark brown, with little to no head. Aroma is cherry, coffee and a hint of some other sweets. Tastes malty and chocolate, only a hint of the cherry flavor that i was expecting to be a little more potent. Very good beer indeed. ($3.49) Batch: 8870.
