Simple yet intensely pleasing nutty chocolate-cherry aroma. Good head with minimal lacing, like most stouts. Regarding the flavor, I must be one of the people who’ve gotten a batch with more cherries because the tart cherry flavor definitely dominates the traditional stout flavor. The result is great - tastes like a stout-cherry wine cooler. I like it though it’s not as high in my book as a great "straight" stout. But I’d probably use this one for after lawnmowing in summer.

Kindof a thin stout, teeny tiny dark brown head that dissipates quickly. Smells of cherries and roasted malt. Taste is great, sweet and mildly roasty with hints of the cherry flavor. Aftertaste is wonderful. This went down way too fast. If you like sweet beers this is worth a try!

On tap at ChurchKey. Dark brown with ruby highlights. Thin tan head with good retention. Mild aroma of oak, smoke and tannins. Flavor is similar with sour cherry tartness. Clean, full mouthfeel. A little undercarbonated but tasty.

UPDATED: FEB 23, 2010 RERATE: Black pour, with smallish mocha head. Nose shows roast, some coffee and chocolate notes, and a hint of cherries. Sour cherries come through more on the taste, but take a backseat to what is a lovely stout on its own. This is a tasty beer. Happy to have rediscovered it.

Bottle, batch 8730 (9/16/08). Pours black with a small dark tan head that fades quickly. Aroma of rich roasted malt, slight roasted nuts/coffee, and bitter chocolate. Flavor is initially quite sweet with sour cherry notes. Roasty finish. Flavor is a touch medicinal, especially as you continue to drink. Solid malt backbone though. Pretty good stout but gets a little tart/medicinal at times.

Bottle. Pours a thick oily black with no head. Nice lacing. Aroma is roasted malts and cherries with notes of coffee and chocolate. On the plate it is silky and smooth. The flavor almost hides the cherries, bringing out the bitterness of coffee, but it finishes sweet and dry, leaving a cherry aftertaste. Overall, pretty good. It is very different and not as good as the bourbon barrel aged version, but still worth drinking.

Pours black with a tan head. Cherry and chocolate aroma. Huge cherry flavor that smooths into a roasty and malty finish. More cherry than I expected, but I really enjoyed this one. I recommend trying it, especially if you like cherries.

Bottle. Pitch black pour, no carbonation and a had aroma of coffee and cherries. Flavor was smoky, peat, cherries and a little tart on the finish. Another nice Bells offering.
