tagz (309), USA Oct 30, 2007 Updated: Oct 31, 2007 bottle. pours black, with a thin red head. aroma of cherry, oats, and light alcohol - the combination gives it a slightly medicinal quality. flavor is tart cherries and caramel. mild carbonation. the combination of tart dark fruit, thick body and warming alcohol don’t do it for me - felt like i was drinking a refined dimetap. if you like fruit stouts, you may give it a go, but its not my bag.
BeerBaron617 (151), Novi, Michigan, USA Oct 6, 2008 I’m sorry to say that this is the first beer from Bells that I am very dissapointed with. To be frank, It tastes like an amazing stout, with very tart cherry juice mixed in. I was really expecting an amazing stout, with a nice cherry afterthought. It pours a very dark brown. and has quite a misleading aroma, without any hint of cherry. It really does go downhill with the flavor. CapnJazz (12), Boalsburg, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 6, 2008 12 oz bottle. Was a little disappointed with this one. Was not particularly malty, as I expected, nor was the cherry presence strong enough to warrant this being anything special. Underwhelming in just about every sense, yet not so drinkable to be a session beer or anything like that. Some coffee, a good bit of bitterness, and a slight lingering cherry impression. Would like to see this amped up quite a bit. Miksu (1286), Jyväskylä, Finland Oct 2, 2008 12 oz bottle at Akkurat, Stockholm. Sweetish, roasty, fruity and leathery aroma. Roasty and coffeish flavor with strong tart cherry taste. Exotic combination of coffee and tart cherries. Nice to try but I still prefer plain stout. bretupdegraff (96), Fishers, Indiana, USA Sep 30, 2008 Pours dark with a slight brown head. aroma is Malty and sweet. Flavor is not what I expected... Flavor starts with a tart cherry chocolate maltyness as the carbonation thickens the mouthfeel I start to notice a little coffee/roasty flavor with a nice bitter ending that brings out a bit more of the Cherry flavor that brings me right into a sour stout aftertaste - Very nice
I will have to come back to this brew and rerate but I like this very much. BrewCzar (71), St Louis, Missouri, USA Sep 22, 2008 Bottle pours nearly black with a small dissipating brown head. Aroma is sweet, chocolate, dark dried fuits, and woody notes. The flavor begins with sweet sugary notes of figs and cherries with roasted malts followed by the tartness of sour cherries which dominates the flavor with burnt undertones.
