CheersMate1 (766), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Nov 8, 2009 12 oz. from Greens on Ponce De Leon. Georgia seems to be getting the mediocre Bell’s beer. Fluffy head with a nice amber color, but for a scotch ale it is rather light in terms of color. Scotch Ale....huh? Doesn’t look like one, and now it doesn’t smell like one. An almost fruity malt and floral hop aroma. Really sweet sugar smell with a hint of spice. Somewhat of a pungent beer. Didn’t smell like a scotch ale and didn’t look like one, and now it doesn’t taste like one either. A slight fruit flavor with a sweet malt backbone. Hops come through slightly but are really nothing special. I just don’t see how this can be called a scotch ale. MmmcKay (269), Brentwood, Tennessee, USA Oct 18, 2009 Orange amber pour. Aromas of molasses and malt. IN Kind of weak even for a scotch ale. Just needs to be amped up a little bit.
shawnm213 (882), South Bend, Indiana, USA Oct 14, 2009 Bottle dug up by BBB63, as he knew I was in search of any untried Bells beers - Thanks Mike. Pours amber with red highlights and a big bubble bath white head. Good lookin beer. aroma is scotch, spices, and paper. flavor is cough syrup, rotten fruit, caramel, and bread. Not bad when its cool, but isn’t very good as it warms. Probably a little past its prime. checkmatei1 (629), Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 8, 2009 Bottle: Poured a dark amber with a little head. The aroma was malty and holiday spices. The flavor was malts, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and a hint of hops. Overall, one of the best holiday beers I’ve had. shp555 (1677), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Oct 7, 2009 Pours an amber color with a tan head. Aroma is malty, caramel, cinnamon, nutmeg, some ginger, and crystal malt. Flavor is malty, caramel, nutmeg, ginger, crystal malt, and a bitter earthy finish. GeneralGao (3051), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Sep 5, 2009 Bottle. September ’tis the season for a Bell’s Christmas Ale. Poured a clear dark orange color. The head was one finger high and off white with an orange tint. Nice aroma that included the likes of dark fruit, dark molasses, and a bit of hay. Light to medium bodied with carbonation on the high end of the spectrum. I tasted subdued pine, a hint of dark fruit, and minimal toffee. Eh, bit of a snoozer. thedm (3833), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Aug 26, 2009 This bottled brew from JSquire at a rating party poured a medium sized head of foamy finely sized off-white colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a slightly hazy softly carbonated orange brown colored body and a good lacing. The weak aroma was malt with tanned leather notes. The crisp mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a mellow hoppy aftertaste. The flavor contained notes of malt hops and mild brown malt. A decent one that I would consider having again. cgarvieuk (4159), Edinburgh, Scotland Aug 18, 2009 Bottle at Cropredy and thanks to Miketd for this one... brown ... sweet caramelised sugers malt nose .. over sweet toffee ... very 1D ... light spice ... quite bock like.
