3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: JAN 11, 2014 Meh. Everything about this beer is mild. There isnít much to love or hate. This beer is to other Christmas/Scottish ales as a session beer is to a robust pale ale.
Pours a hazy orangey-amber color with a thin off-white head. The little aroma that is there is malty. The flavor is mild, almost watered down, but itís pleasant enough to drink. The caramel malt notes dominate because not much else is going on. There is a surprising amount of carbonation in the palate, just on the border of being off-putting.
If youíre looking to bring a beer to a social function where most of the people there are satisfied with crappy beer, then this is probably the one for you. It wonít offend you, and itís decent enough, and you wonít have to deal with the anguish of having Philistines complaining about how damned overpowering your Alpha King is...

4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
My favorite autumn/ winter ale:
Aroma: sweet-herbal; dried alfalfa; clove/leaf-pile yeast aroma (Scottish ale like)
Appearance: Amber; hazy-copper ; beautiful!
Taste: malty; slightly sour-malt; deeply earthy at start; floral then light-spice; finish is bitter/hops but metal/copper sweetness; balanced contrasts through-out.
Palate: Clean, brightly carbonated; sharp; necessary due to malty base of this ale.
Overall: My personal favorite; almost year round; a big malty Munich with Michigan hops ... Or is it a Scottish ale thatís too hoppy but bright & crisp? Too me its Bellís Christmas Ale ... There can only be one ... And itís a holiday treat all around!

Pours a clear pale brown with a tiny tan head. Aromas of fruit and cherries. Nice sweet ale flavors of malt and toffee with cherries or cranberries. Not to bad. Different but pretty good. Light palate.

Aroma is cranberries. Taste is slightly fruity, a tiny hint of sour, and some of that sickly sweet taste that I donít know what it is, but is a common off flavor in beer. Not the best offering from Bellís.

Okay, darker session beer. Mahogany colored. Malty, some fruitiness, a pinch of holiday spice. A tad too thin maybe.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Copper amber color with a small beige head. Aroma is yeasty spiciness with a fruity sweetness. Flavor is spicy hops bitterness with a light banana sweetness that finishes up with a dry herbal bitterness. Medium bodied with a syrupy palate and light carbonation. Itís a good ale but not at all what I think of when I hear Scotch ale. Definitely worth trying/

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Iím impressed with this one due to the brewing of it -- Iím getting some spice notes, but interestingly, no spices in it! An unusual Scottish ale, insofar as usually thereís more maltiness. Donít think of this one as a Scottish, but as a different kind of Christmas ale.

Pours red amber, brief head. Yeast, breast aroma. Flavor is the same - lightly roast flavor, a liitle caramel, initially slightly sweet, mild hop finish. Overall, OK session Scottish but nothing special.
