COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The basic inspiration for Bellís Christmas Ale was to create a sessionable holiday beer, using locally grown malt, which would stand apart from the array of spiced winter warmers that are typically introduced this time of year. In contrast to many other seasonals, Christmas Ale doesnít contain any spices: all of the dry, toasted notes & subtle toffee flavors come from the 100% Michigan-grown barley, custom malted by Briess Malting, while a blend of hops from Michigan & the Pacific Northwest lend earthy, herbal aromas. At 5.5% ABV, it stands as a smooth, highly drinkable beer intended to complement holiday menus, not overshadow them.

It pours light brown with a pale tan head. I smell bread and malt. The taste is big on malt and spice, but very light on hops. This is a bit watery compared to other Christmas/Winter ales. The spices do provide a bit of a bite. Not a bad Ale.. Just not great either.

Not a traditional Christmas ale. The spices are subtle. Nice dry finish. Pours red.

Bottle. Pours a reddish color with white head. Caramel, spice aromas. Spiced, caramel, slight resiny, herbal flavors. A little disappointing, one of my least favorite Bells beers. Spices seem a little off and just doesnít warmth and/or body of a good winter ale.

On tap, poured into a tulip. Doughy, toffee/butterscotch, herb aromas come through initially with a touch of spice and secondary notes of seltzer water and marmalade. It pours a clear and light orange-yellow with a soapy, fluffy, foamy off-white head that retains a thick, fluffy ring with a good lace on the glass. The taste is and intensifying medium high bitter with medium sweet support. Itís texture is a bit thin with fizzy carbonation. The medium body has mostly notes of caramel with some roasty chqracters, orange, and some herb at the finish. The mostl dominant flavor is a dry toffee that turns waxy as the drink progresses. The toffee lingers for a bit but is replaced by a doughy and yeasty aftertaste with marmalade notes and a slight tart cherry. There?s definitely a long lingering wax flavor in the aftertaste.

Bottle from Hop City. Pours amber with white head. Aroma of hops, spice, and Christmas cookies. Tastes of nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla, sugar and bitter hops. Bitter aftertaste. Decent beer

A nice copper body with a nice off white that had great retention and lace. Aroma had a nice malt presence to it. Mostly caramel malts but also just enough toasted malts to it. Hops were mildly bitter in the aroma. Flavor seemed to have good balance between malt flavors and the hops were just bitter enough to give it some character. A nice smooth finish and a decent mouth feel. I liked the fact this was not a "spiced" beer. A good beer.

Amber Color, Huge And Long Lasting Foam Head, Lots Of Lacing. Although It is Rather Fresh Beer. It has Lots Of White Floaters, Therefore A Little Unappealing. Cooked Vegetables Aroma Reminds Me Of Pumpkin Beer. Malt, Cooked Vegetables. Medium Body, Light Bitter. Drinkable, Pretty Decent Besides Itís Label, does not really have anything to do with Christmas... Still Worth A Try...

On tap (growler). Dark copper coloring with off-white head. Very sweet flavor with a lot of caramel. Iím usually not much of one for Christmas beers, but this one doesnít overdo it on the spice and is fairly balanced. Tastes like a bigger beer than the 5.9 ABV. Enjoyable.

Bottle. Pours partly cloudy copper with nice off white head. Nose is grain and a little caramel. Taste is quite a bit of spiciness and bitterness. Watery mouthfeel. Some caramel in the taste. Lasting spiciness in the aftertaste.

Pours copper with a wispy white head. Malty aroma with some fruity character. The flavor is malt forward with caramel, fruit, and bread notes. The hop bitterness is low. Light-medium body with a thin mouthfeel. The finish is sweet with a lingering mild spiciness.

Very enjoyable christmas ale. This beer is well balanced with malt. Not too spicy and tasty.
