4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 jjgmd (291) - Coral Springs, Florida, USA - MAY 1, 2012
Pours a dark amber brown muddy color. Nose is sweet, fruity and malty. Taste is full of flavor, it is sweet and fruity but not overbearing, with a nice malty finish. Great doppelbock, finish is short and the taste lingers. Quite a tasteful beer very well balanced with no overshadowing. Try it. Quaff Score
8 / 10........a truly great microbrewery from end to end.

Pours a nice deep brown with a reddish overtone, little head or lacing. Smell is of the sweet malts, with a bit of a hop backbone. Taste is pleasant, well balanced with the malts up front. Very good beer overall; get it while you can.

12oz bottle - pours clear amber with tan head. Nose is caramel and honey with perhaps some floral qualities. Flavors adds the molasses indeed. taste is sweet with some bitterness to the lips. Fairly light for the style though it does hide the 8% ABV very well. Aftertaste is toffee. I could do without the molasses.

Tap flight at Bavarian Lodge. reddish brown pour, very still in the glass with almost no head. Aroma of iced tea and mild hops. Nice malty Doppelbock. Golden brown sugar, raw (unprocessed) sugar crystals, and ESB hops to balance. Medium full in the mouth. Good.
3.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 jwr07 (65) - Decatur, Georgia, USA - APR 11, 2012
Pours a ruddy brownish ruby color. Smells sweet and malty. Wonderful supple carbonation. Tastes complex: sweet sugary malt, candied fruit, something yeasty or candi sugary, and a relatively dry and bitter finish. Well balanced for a doppelbock, which I sometimes find overbearingly sweet.
