Dickinsonbeer (2480), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Mar 29, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a very deep ruby amber almsot borwn with a thin lasting head and some spoitty lace. Aroma thcikly sweet with caramel toasted and chocolate malts and tons of fruity oxidized esters- clearly and old bottle. Flavor is also papery some cardboard- tons of sherry, and fruitiness, caramell sweetness and some cherry skin astringency in the end- with even some tartness - perhaps a slight bacterial infection? Meh.

Appealing dark orangey-brown color, although minimal head and carbonation. Flavor is sweet and nicely melanoidiny, with a wet caramel finish. Low carbonation leaves the beer a little heavy on the palate. A little bit of leafy hops appear at the finish. There might be a little too much alcohol showing but all in all a very pleasing doppelbock. 502Flavors (185), Kentucky, USA Jul 20, 2008 12 oz bottle into sniffer. Crystal clear dark amber color with good off-white head that holds pretty well. Not a whole lot going on in the aroma besides sweet amber malt with some nice doughy/biscuity malt notes too- still smells good though. Flavor is good, but pretty sweet, not necessarily too sweet, but I wouldn’t drink more than one in a night. It is mostly dominated by sweet caramel malt flavors; no hops. Medium bodied on the palate with a smooth texture characterized by very subtle and fine carbonation. Overall: I always thought I wasn’t a doppelbock guy because of the first one I had, which was nauseatingly sweet - Salvator - but this and celebrator have started to turn me onto the style. Aroma of caramel, toasted malts, cookie, fruit, molasses, brown sugar and alcohol. Taste of brown sugar, molasses, fruit and alcohol. Tilted to the sweet malted side but not too sweet to make in unbalanced. Hides the alcohol decently. Pours a reddish brown with a small beige head that soon recedes to 1/8 inch. The aroma is moderate in strength with sweet malts, molasses and roasted barley. The flavor is rich with the roasted barley, brown sugar and nutty caramel. The mouthfeel is uneven starting a bit thin but building to a syrupy conclusion. The finish is medium in duration with lingering sweet malts. Overall: a very easy drinking concoction. Not my favorite from Bell’s, but its still pretty darned good. Thanks Deniz.
