ThaBobfather (130), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA May 27, 2008 One of my favorite Bells. In addition to being a big fan of doppelbocks, Bell’s doesn’t disappoint. Matly and great texture. Beautiful smell and reddish pour.
BrewCzar (49), St Louis, Missouri, USA Aug 19, 2008 Bottle pours a dark amber with a full tan head. The aroma is very sweet with notes of butterscotch, toffee, vanilla, and malts. Taste is sweet, caramel, brown sugar, malty, with a good alcohol burn and a slightly bitter finish. Beerlando (1237), Orlando, Florida, USA Aug 18, 2008 Batch 8251. The body is a clear, dark reddish-amber color with a large but fleeting, tan colored head. Hardly any lacing is noticeable. The aroma is hoppier than most doppelbock’s I’ve encountered, with some interesting citrus and pine bitterness joining a malty base of caramel, toffee, malted chocolate, and old, oaky wood. Flavors continue this theme, velvety caramel and toffee lending sweetness as bitter, earthy spices and piney-citrus hops do the opposite. The body is medium-full and moderately carbonated, sweet but not cloying. The alcohol shows a good deal on the finish. Overall, this is a pretty unique take on the style. I enjoyed it, but it didn’t blow me away. Solid brew. marchcow (482), Coralville, Iowa, USA Aug 13, 2008 Strong and fresh aroma, cream cola, hints of chocolate, oats, and cookies. Tea/cola colors witha bubbly head. Strong milk chocolate flavor, caramel, malt/shake, vanilla, sweet with light woody bitterness. Creamy palate with a long chocolaty duration. Mild carbonation. Tasty desert beer. 1_2many (194), Ohio, USA Aug 11, 2008 Bottle. Burgundy pour which isn’t hazy but has little pieces of sediment suspended throughout. Looks strange and I notice that no one else on this page has mentioned it so maybe its just this bottle. Anyways a ripened apples and molasses aroma mixed with a little alcohol. Flavor is mostly sweet offset very little with some hops. Medium bodied and fizzy. These little pieces of sediment floating around are throwing me off a bit. They’ve settled into a ring about the middle of the glass. The beer isn’t very impressive but I’m going to try it again to see if this sediment is only in this bottle. ajm (304), USA Aug 9, 2008 Bottle from the keystone of our nation’s security, nbutler11. I wish I could have given this a better score but it kept losing points because it smelled like a lame brown ale and seems too light in color for the style. However, the flavor is grand - like HazelNutBrown Nectar with a kick: and I love me some HNB!!! Notes of honey and malt make this guy a treat. A cask of this would be nasty good I bet.
