On tap at the brewery Underground Bluz. Appearance - Beautiful, sparkling clear ruby brew. Small, creamy, khaki-colored head. Quicly dissipating. Thick and oily in the glass. Aroma - Rich and malty. Notes of alcohol, caramel, prune and raisins. Taste - Hearty, rich and sweet with loads of raisins, light molasses, caramel and candy sugar. Perfectly bittered for balance. Palate - Full-bodied with a super heavy, oily mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Lengthy, bittersweet finish. Excellent! Reminiscent of Dogfish Head Raison Dí Etre.

Pours a rust copper color with an orangish-tan head. Plum and toffee on the nose. Moderately thick with adequate carbonation. Tastes approximate the nose except that the plum and toffee come through more prominently.

Bottle. Really loved this one. Deep, amber-copper color. Light head. Aroma was fruit cake, hints of molasses. Taste is dried fruit, fruit cake, malty sweet. Not bad.

Beautiful brown pour. Brown sugar and cherry aroma. Nice residual sweetness with bready undertones. Slightest of phenolic on the back end but great beer

Nose is full of dried fruit and cherry. Some grape. Light sherry. Deep red to brown with a small off white head. Taste is slightly sweet with a moderately to highly watery mouthfeel. Not necessarily oxidized but just flat and thin in malt presence. A shame since it smells so good.

Pours clear and bubbly ruby-red with a small off-white head. Sweet aroma of caramel malt, fruit and some hops. Taste is malty, fruity, a little sugary sweet with a light bitter finish. Medium bodied.

Bottle. Poured clear amber -- very attractive color. Aroma is mild but nice. Flavor is smooth but a little bland all-around. Leaves you a dry, sour aftertaste. Not bad and very drinkable, but missing something... Had it with some spicy hummus -- balanced well!!!

The beer pours a clear brownish red with a medium off-white head, and the aroma blends roasted malts, caramel, lager yeast, slight hints of coffee, and slight hints of toffee. The taste is quite umami, slightly sweet, and a touch sour, and the aftertaste is malty, hearty, and slightly sweet without overpowering the tongue. The palate has a soft carbonation, thick texture, and a medium body.

Old rating. Bottle from Old Town. Poured into a snifter. Dark mahogany brown with beige head that quickly dissipates. Light malt aroma (kind of underwhelming). Taste is malty with big dark/dried fruit bouquet: prune, black mission fig, currant and plum. Slightly boozy on the palate as well. Oily mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Fairly toasted sweet finish.

Iím not sure what happened with Bellís Consecrator Doppelbock Beer. This is a brewery that usually makes great stuff across all styles, but for some reason this beer just seems off to me. Itís not especially delectable or aromatic, though it is no challenge to drink. What shouldíve been something great is only okay at best.

I poured a 12oz bottle into a tulip glass. It was bottled on 1/24/15 and cost $4.19 ($0.35 per ounce).

Appearance: Beautiful burgundy hue, fairly clear. Pours to a two-finger, tan, soapy which mostly dissipates and leaves minor lacing.

Smell: Rather strong alcohol aroma, hint of fruit and some earthy hop character.

Taste: Thereís a certain maltiness found in doppelbocks, and I was hoping to get that here. And while this beer is certainly more malty than hoppy, itís lacking in distinctive character. Instead of caramel, toffee, etc., I only get mild dark fruit and a lot of alcohol. Thereís also a surprisingly strong hop presence as well. Slightly earthy and dry, perhaps with a touch of spice. There seems to be some kind of vegetal presence, though faint. A dash of vanilla from the booze, but otherwise I find the palette to be on the mild side.

Drinkability: One thing Bellís Consecrator Doppelbock Beer has going for it is its delivery. The mouthfeel is nice and thick with a smooth texture. The 8% ABV makes itself known in the form of warmth (and a bit in the taste), though I would not describe it as a hot brew at all. Iíd expect more complexity and intensity for the body, but whatís here is quite drinker-friendly.
