3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
From a 2009 bottle. Dark rich looking beer did not fill up my pint glass for some odd reason. I got very rich dark fruits. Very drinkable was suprised to see 11% when I went to rate this one.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz bottle vintage 2008 shared by waltonc - thanks, Chris! Pours black in color with a small tannish head sitting on top. Some lacing present. Big spicy rich aroma of roast, cardamom, anise, tobacco, soy sauce, and molasses. Very interesting. A little salty even. The flavor is crazy - or eccentric I guess - with roasted malt, cardamom, anise, raisin, soy sauce, blackstrap molasses, and a salty black olive note. Overspiced maybe, but still tasty and well-done. Smooth yet paradoxically tingly on the mouthfeel, with fairly full body. This is one of the more unique beers I’ve had recently, and for that I must give it credit.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Sampled at Rare Beer Tasting II in Denver on September 17, 2010. 2004 vintage poured by Laura Bell. Shiny, deep-dark amber color with a clear body and an off-white/light-brown head. Aroma is really, really awesome, showcasing wood, possibly smoked, definitely aged and alcoholic. Flavor is smooth… very smooth. Alcohol is present, but not so much that it chokes you. Sticky/syrupy with a bit of alcohol in the finish.

2004 vintage sample from a 12oz bottle @ the Denver Rare Beer Tasting II on 9/17/10. Deep red pour with a 1/4" off white head. Sweet potato nose with carrots and spices. Medium to full body with more veggies and aged malts. Sweet pumpkin finish... 4 me, the veggies were too much... not my thing.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
2005 batch. Strong smell. Complicated taste. Too much going on in the beer to pick out individual flavors. Possibly licorice.

Thanks bvc! Batch 8877. Juniper nose, highland peat, milk chocolate. Creamy chocolate with more juniper berry, sticky sweet and oaky in the finish. Flavors all mushed together, works great for me, killer beer.

Strong nose of dark malt, tobacco, molasses, earthy notes, roast, salty and lightly briney too. Pours dark brown almost black, no head or lace, some legs. Malty notes of dark malts, licorice, soy, light earthy notes. Almost like hotd adam. medium carb, nice full mouth feel.
