Type 423 Ė Very pungent fruity & floral aroma, with pine as a secondary note.

Silphium (3192) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - AUG 2, 2012
Draft at the Eccentric Cafe, Kalamazoo. Dark brown body with orange highlights, thin creamy tan head. Nose of leafy hops- fall leaves, almost smoky/roasty with notes of anise. Bitter body with toasted fall leaves and licorice/dark fruit notes. Reminiscent of a just-better-than-mediocre Black IPA.

On tap at Eccentric Cafť. Dark brown with a creamy tan head and a sheet of lace. Aroma of roasted malt, light pine and light caramel. Creamy and thin body tastes of roasted malt, light pine, chocolate and something a tad weird. Finishes up with a slight burn.

Draft. Poured a clear dark brown color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate herbal hop and toasted black malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium toasted sweet flavor with a medium dark sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met by more of a Black IPA.

1st in a series for 2012. Brewed with dark malts. Aroma is almost indescernable. Not much of anything detected. Dark brown in appearance with a reasonable head. Slightly nutty and herbal flavor with a smooth palate. Damn near a porter but not quite. Not the best Iíve had from Bells. On tap at the Eccentric Cafe as of 3/09/12
