MereLikesBeer (154), Royal Oak, Michigan, USA May 21, 2009 This beer is pretty darn good. It poured a very dark brown/black with a caramel colored head that didn’t last all too long. It had an amazing aroma of chocolate and dark coffee notes. It was almost syrupy, however nothing too intense. It had a great taste of chocolate, a bitter aftertaste (not bad) and had some malty flavor as well. I really enjoyed the mouth feel of this beer, it was thick and rich without being too much. A very good beer to sip on. I like it a lot, and will certainly try it again. Birdiebeagle (778), Perkasie, Pennsylvania, USA May 21, 2009 Bottle #8944 Pours a black with a brown head. The head lasts well, and laces nicely. Aroma is of roasted chocolate, molasses, maple syrup, and salty. Has a good carbonation and an awesome mouthfeel. The flavor is wonderful. A good chocolate bitter. Really well blended. The alcohol is well hidden. Has a full body and a thick texture. This one is like eating a beer. Has a great finish with an awesome lingering aftertaste. This is one darn good beer. curly (549), Nashville, Tennessee, USA May 21, 2009 Pours solid black with a thick and frothy brown head. Aroma has sweet choc. malt, and creamy vanilla. Taste is mocha with a bitterness like darker chocolate. Alcohol warms the nose and is pleasant. Finishes with some roast and anise. FatPhil (3449), Espoo, Finland May 21, 2009 355ml bottle (Cracked Kettle, Amsterdam)
On opening a lovely plummy and cakey aroma. Pours jet black with a thick tight tan head. Lovely chocolatey aroma, with some fruity hoppiness. Very thick palate, lots of burnt and roasty retronasal aromas, but some fruity esters too. So thick it’s almost slimey. Taste is pretty typical hoppy imperial stout, the burntness dominates. Finish is incredibly burnt, alas a touch astringent, and with a hint of soap too. Pretty OK, but not wowing me. In some ways the sliminess is offensive. Much rather have a Nekron or a Sportteri. jkwalking05 (1483), Arlington, Texas, USA May 18, 2009 Black in color with a decent sized brown head. Aroma is heavy in roastiness, with some molasses, maple, spicy hops, and coffee. Taste is of roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate and molasses.
