biggmike (480), Hattiesburg, Mississippi, USA Jan 27, 2009 Poured a dark brown bordering on black color with tan head that lasted a while and left nice lacing. Aroma was of chocolate, dark fruit, molasses, and coffee. Flavor is very similar with a bit of alcohol present in the taste. Good mouthfeel. Overall a good beer that I think might benefit from some aging.
maddogorlando (1), , Florida, USA does not count Jan 26, 2009 Heavy notes of chocolate with some coffee smell and taste to a lesser extent. Pours a rich black color. Very tasty with just the right balance of flavor and alcohol. A very good, well balanced Stout. TOSG55 (75), Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA Jan 24, 2009 Bottle (brought back from Michigan). Pours a deep black, with a thin, dark brown head that dissipates fairly quickly. Aroma of warming alcohol, dark fruits, and complex malts. Complex, yet subtle flavor: tastes of dark chocolate, chocolate, plums, and just a hint of coffee. Earthy finish. The alcohol is distinctly notable, but is pleasant and warming. Excellent mouthfeel. Another winner from Bells. kraemer420 (14), Terre Haute, Indiana, USA Jan 24, 2009 The first time i tried this was on tap on the recomendation of my Brother in Law and ive never looked back lol...This beer is amazing.. with its very dark coloration and tan head..a slight dark chocolate taste but hoppy at the finish..be careful though at 10.5 abv these will catch up with you quickly...enjoy LtDan (471), LA - Originally from South NJ!, California, USA Jan 24, 2009 Appearance: Midnight brown with a ring of tan suds and swirls at the top.
Aroma: Dark chocolate, chocolate pudding, plums, and black licorice.
Taste: Dark chocolate, wood, a light rum, vanilla, and burnt malts.
Mouthfeel: Amazingly thick and smooth. Not goey or syrupy like some beers of the same style.
Overall: This beer is amazing. I got this on a trade with daknole, and must say...it’s worth the hype. watson1977 (250), , Pennsylvania, USA Jan 21, 2009 Updated: Jan 22, 2009very dark black with a deep mocha colored foamy head. complex aroma with anise, chocolate, and fig...also a touch winey...reminiscent of a barleywine. flavor is creamy chocolate up front finishing out with anise and then fig followed by a hoppy citrus pop and a hint of coffee. great thick and rich mouthfeel but i cant get away from the barleywine qualities that are present subtley in the aroma and also in the warming alcohol flavor at the finish. this is a huge stout. tugg407 (12), Orlando, Florida, USA Jan 21, 2009 I get a spicey, smokey, coffee smell ...very interesting taste. Very Dark!! Great Stout!
