WinoInTraining (104), Longmont, Colorado, USA Dec 15, 2008 Updated: Apr 22, 2009Awesome! 12 oz blt, 12/06 batch, thanks to Crosling! Pours deep dark with a slight mahogany head. No light transmission. Creamy, deep, presistant head. Nose is unreal. lBlueberry, tootsie rols, chocolate liqueur, vegemite? Palate is rich and smooth, creamy texture, persistant and long. Flavors of toasted marshemllow, hazelnuts, toasted malt, vanilla, bourbon. Only complaint is the alcohol shows a bit much on the finish. Unreal, its got the points and rep for a reason. bblack99 (196), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Dec 15, 2008 Perhaps it is my limited expertise, but I really was unimpressed by this beer! It has all of the expected characteristics, great thick black texture, strong aroma, and a nice punch. Beyond that, the coffee and alcohol flavors overpowered all other aspects and led to a punch of aftertaste.
Purchased a 6pk of bottles for $16, expected a little more for the money! 1010 (206), Marysville, Ohio, USA Dec 14, 2008 Pours a deep black with a thick tan head
Taste of coffee cocoa and roasted malts
Almost overwhelming taste, but a little gritty. Might of been a bad bottle.
12 oz bottle from Whole Foods FlipperSipper (14), Durham, North Carolina, USA Dec 14, 2008 Whoa motor oil! This one poured like blackstrap, eluding to the intensity that lies within. Almost a brown head, then nothing. Dark chocolate, espresso, dark fruit, roasted malts in the aroma. Raisiny, roasty and slightly bitter finish. Very smooth and sexy beer. aplusbreaks (330), , Colorado, USA Dec 13, 2008 120z bottle Thanks to Sparky27 for the sweet extra. exclamation point. Pours black with brown seeping through the edges ever so slightly. Little to no head. Aromas of chocolate, bitter dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, and some dark fruits, plums, figs. Flavors of coffee, chocolate, cocoa, dry roasted malts, and a decent amount of hops are present. Palate is nothing short of amazing, smooth, thick, velvety, chewy and just the right amount of carbonation. Thanks again Eric. exclamation point. BREWMUSKCLES (1062), New Jersey, USA Dec 13, 2008 an intense offering i might think for those with limited abilty to taste. bursting yes lordeche with an overwheliming malt presence dark fruits low sweetness this brew is thick and highly demonstrative yet methinks less so a success. scotchy and bitter a bit ashy i find it harsh in finish yet smooth in palate. bitter chocolate... just a touch for my sense a good attempt to satisfy the insatiable but beer..i dont know? a finish like a quality cherry cough medicine with bitters 1 pt. lordeche (397), Quincy, Massachusetts, USA Dec 11, 2008 Pours thick black with brown head. Aroma is bursting with dark berries, plums, and citrus on a rich backbone of deep chocolate and roasted malts. Flavor contains a similar surge of dark fruits, followed by dark chocolate, roasted malts, vanilla, and slight coffee notes. Tons of hops add a beautiful bouquet of floral and fruit notes. Palate is smooth and slightly sticky. One of the greats. Travlr (700), Washington, Washington DC, USA Dec 10, 2008 Pours slowly, thick as motor oil, black as tar. Brown head. Smoky, roasted coffee aroma. Bitter dark chocolate flavor with balanced hops. A winner.
