allman77 (1), Birmingham, Alabama, USA does not count Mar 6, 2008 By far the best beer I think i’ve ever tried. The first true stout I’ve tried as there aren’t many available in my area. Visiting a friend in Michigan and tried on his reccomendation. Pours dark and almost thick with a definite coffeish flavor with a bit of chocolate flavor. Tastes better (if that’s possible) after a year of cellaring as the milder nut and fruit flavors become more defined and add to the flavor. TheRealBastard (141), The-No, California, USA Mar 6, 2008 Poured jet black with quarter inch of dark brown head. Nose is chocolate and roasted malt. Taste is very bold, strong chocolate and expresso flavors. Very potent beer, makes your taste buds dance in joy. Fairly carbonated as well, has a wet finish going down. Highly recommended BOLTZ7555 (1053), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Mar 2, 2008 Acquired via trade from SQNfan...and a sincere thank you for this one!!! A metric ton of chocolate, brown sugar, and toffee evident in the aroma. This beer’s appearance was, perhaps, it’s most underwhelming characteristic. Jet black body with 1/8 inch caramel head; no visible differentiation from most imperials. Flavor is BEYOND bold. Bitter chocolate and roasted coffee, but in amazing proportions. No aftertaste. Bell’s...consistently impresses!!! BeerFanDan17 (610), Land O Lakes, Florida, USA Mar 2, 2008 I finally got to try this one! Bottle at a local beer bar. Poured nice with a smaller head than I expected. The stout was dark and almost thick. Flavors were everywhere with dark chocolate, coffee, toffee and roasty flavors. I can see why this is such a high rated beer! Sparky27 (1559), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Mar 1, 2008 Bottle courtesy of cmr1517. Pours an opaque black with a small tan head. Nose is coffee and dark chocolate. Palate is just like it smells, black coffee at first with bitter sweet dark chocolate finish. Nice creamy mouth feel. The alcohol is pretty well hidden. A terrific stout that deserves the hype. ubamartian (155), Watertown, Wisconsin, USA Mar 1, 2008 On tap at Terminal. Pours black with a chocolate head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate and coffee. First sip was roasted malts, chocolate, and a good hop bite. Wow is that good. Heavy and smooth on the mouth. Leaves a good lacing as you drink it. Great chocolate hop aftertaste. Excellent stout! IPAGargoyleGuy (139), Troy, NY, New York, USA Feb 29, 2008 Updated: Mar 5, 2008On tap at the Blind Tiger in NYC. Such a flavorful and rich stout. With all the amazing beers they had on draft, this was the one I had to have 2 of. ksurkin (354), Norfolk, Virginia, USA Feb 28, 2008 Updated: Jan 16, 2009this beer has truly made a hop-head a stout guy. pours jet black with a soft dark brown head, and great lacing. aroma was of roast coffee, cocoa powder, and a great hoppy presence with a touch of alcohol. flavor was just superb. intense coffee, fresh expresso, dark malts, dark chocolate, and a lovely hop bitterness. after the swallow a long lasting bittersweetness lingers on the toungue. 10.5%abv adds a touch of warmth adding balance to the beer. simply another great offering from bells and definitely the best stout i’ve tasted.
