nimrod (53), USA Feb 21, 2008 12oz bottle. Poured an oily, molasses black with half inch creamy head. The top layer has a dark, warm reddish tint to it. Great malty, coffee, caramel, and nutty aroma. I was hit with chocolate, molasses, cream, and a blend of other nutty flavors. I was amazed by the blend between sweet, rich, and roasted palate of this beer. mgoy (343), Oak Brook, Illinois, USA Feb 20, 2008 Updated: Feb 24, 2008Bells Expedition Stout is a fantastically complex beer. Sweet, chocolate, smoke and coffee are all combined to create a great imperial stout. Dark motor oil color with chocolatey head great sweet and bitter aroma. WickerBrew (312), Chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 19, 2008 Another big winner from Bell’s. Incredible drinkablilty from such a big beer, and one heck of an aftertaste. Very smooth, with all the buzzwords that typically describe a stout. Bourban aged stouts may taste better for one glass, but you cant go all night with them - This is the best of all worlds. gsteph (263), knoxville, Tennessee, USA Feb 17, 2008 What can I say that hasn’t already been said? Pours thick and slow, like molasses in January. Black as black can get with a thick, whipped chocolate mousse head. Aroma is typical for the style...roasted malt, bittersweet chocolate, and espresso. Flavor is the same. Astoundingly smooth, and velvety. This is some kind of liquid love...or Vahlrona chocolate, not sure which is closer. The flavor palate, while simple, couldn’t be done much better. Don’t like the price though. MegannageM (8), USA does not count Feb 17, 2008 Deep dark black with thick coffee colored head, mouthfeel is like velvet. Aroma of bitter bakers chocolate and black coffee a trace of alcohol. Flavor is very similar, sweet and dry, espresso and chocolate tones with some malty sweetness slight hop presence. Finish is phenomenal with velveteen smoothness, a dry slight hop tang, and the warm presence of the 10 %. HomeBrewHawk (263), De Soto, Kansas, USA Feb 16, 2008 12 oz. brown bottle. Batch 8145. Bottle conditioned.
Served in a brandy snifter. Pours an opaque black with a slight tan head. Roasted malt aroma with a slight whiff of alcohol. Very fully bodied. Rich mouthfeel. Lots of roasted barley flavor with a fair amount of hop bitterness. Super long dry finish with lots of coffee flavors.
A classic version of the style. This one was fresh, save some for the cellar. thisisshsas (5), USA does not count Feb 16, 2008 If i had to describe this beer in one word, i would say thick. This beer was my first foray into into stouts other than Guniness, so i may just need some experiance. has a very malty taste with a speck of coffee. Aftertaste brims of chocolate. if it was only 6 ounces it would be awesome, but u still have to choke through the next 6 ounces. mar (1740), Rowlett, Texas, USA Feb 15, 2008 Updated: Feb 18, 2008black as night pour with an espresso colored head with a slight reddish tint as well. dark chocolate, roasted malts, sugar and all kinds of smells going on. great thickness and a taste screaming of chocolate, wood, thick malts, dried fruits. this is probably the most complex tasting beer i’ve ever had.
