fata2683 (836), Panama City, Florida, USA Jul 5, 2009 bottle, pours a thick black, thin dark brown head. Dark cherry and prune fruit in the aroma, along with dark chocolate and tons of roasted maltyness. Smells nice. Bittersweet roasted malt that is full bodied and has a light carbonation that is nice on the tip of the tongue. Some chewy bitter cocoa and hops follow into a lingering bitter expresso finish. This is really top notch, and so easy to drink at 10.5. I’m a fan. HopBackDoc (393), Hatboro, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 4, 2009 Wow, this is an excellent imperial stout. Pours as black as oil with a one finger brown head. Aroma of roasted grains, dried cherries and plums, a hint of cocoa, and piney hops. The flavor followed the aromas. The malts and grain taste up front with the dried fruit, cocoa, and coffee flavors all being bombarded with a ridiculous amount of bittering hops that attack your taste buds. This beer just really improves with time. Excellent! italarican (157), Astoria, New York, USA Jul 3, 2009 Special thanks to coyotehunter for the generous share of Batch 8944! Pours a thick, syrupy black with an airy cappuccino head. It glides almost like a lava lamp as I shake for the first sniff. Aroma hit with my nose almost 2 feet from the glass! Close up, it’s an aroma of dark fruit, molasses, chocolate, and a touch of alcohol. First thoughts as it goes down: “This is creamy,” and “Oh, baby!” Nutty flavor rich with dark fruit, caramel, and notes of coffee and chocolate. The alcohol is well hidden. A soft warming alcohol finish with a roasted malt aroma that lingers. It is so smooth and creamy; I have discovered the perfect mouthful of beer. All-around... I’m in love. sabby2000 (1), USA does not count Jul 2, 2009 this beer is just horrible....one of the worst "beers" I have ever had.....tastes like coffee syrup....just brutal....WAY too over powering......you need to cut it with 3/4 kalamazoo and 1/4 expo just choke it down.....another one of those OVERRATED beers just because it costs so much....but it looks good in the glass......thats about it!!!!! MmmcKay (269), Brentwood, Tennessee, USA Jun 30, 2009 This a truly a fantastic brew. Recently, I’ve tried Expedition both fresh and aged. A little time does this beer a world of difference. It’s great no matter when you drink it, but bottle age really breaks up the density, keeps the richness, and adds a complexity that I’ve rarely experienced in any beverage. Classic angrypirate06 (678), Texas, USA Jun 27, 2009 Bottle. Pours a syrupy dark black with brown head. Aroma is smoky, bbq, meat, coffee. Flavor is a great mix of coffee, with smoke, front, chocolate coffee with great duration. Syrupy mouth. ChrisThomson (378), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 24, 2009 Bottle. Simply amazing beer. Pours pure lack with beige head. Lovely roasted coffee aroma. Taste is of rich dark chocolate, figs, caramel, and molasses. A smooth and warming finish. Can’t get enough of this beer! FunkyBrewster (436), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 21, 2009 08 bottle from the brewery. Pours motor oil black with a nice creamy dark tan head. Aroma is oh so delicious, huge chocolate and licorice with a definite big alcohol note. Extremely sweet but balanced with a nice earthy hop character. Flavor somehow even trumps the aroma, just fantastic stuff. Rich malt abound with coffee and chocolate and a nice earthy character character. Dark overripe fruits help balance the bitter chocolate towards the finish. So sweet and bitter well balanced. Full bodied and sticky rich. Damn definitely a top beer. Great stuff
