The darkest beer we make; this Imperial stout contains double the malt and five times the hops of our Kalamazoo stout and is perfect for cellaring as its complex character will evolve over time. Available October-March.

This is a great beer! First aroma is coffee, followed by a little chocolate. Very nice rich, complex flavor. A little sweet but balanced well with the hops and the nice alcohol finish.

(12oz bottle, did a vertical on this with mar, one of mine and one of his, thanks!) Our two bottles were 8 months old and 18 months old and both were completely different beers, this rating is based on both. Pours a very black, lets no light in with no head. Great lacing on the glass. Coats the glass like a sheet. Nose and taste are coffee, chocolate cake, and carbonation is great. The older bottle was more syrupy and had mellowed out quite a bit, I preferred it as the newer bottles need age on them to get some more sweetness and let the woody/smoky/alcohol flavors die a bit. A great stout overall.

This poured very dark with aromas of roasted malt coffee and molasses. It was smooth with a creamy texture and a long finish a good stout but a little stong for my taste.

Bottle. Thanks Dedollewaitor. Pours pitch black with a small dense light brown head. Aromas of brown sugar, licorice, alcohol, roasted malt and herb-like hoppy touch. Super smooth and oily texture. Flavour of dark chocolate, molasses sugar, coffee, licorice, resin, cocoa powder and bitter hops. Just lovely! Thank you so much for sharing this one!

Originally reviewed 2/16/2008; continuously enjoyed since then.. 12 oz. bottle poured into Hess truck glass at parents’ house... WOW. Pours jet black like old motor oil. Brutally viscous with an almost jelly-like milk chocolate-colored head with strength. Blown away - can’t get better than this. Don’t know how they did this but it smells like BBQ in the smoker and cinnamon toast all at once. Sweet, roasted malt is still not unbalanced at all. Deep, thick roasted, smoky, charred malt combines with sweet brown sugar to generate one of the best beer tastes I’ve ever experienced. Still blown away - amazing. So, so warm on the mouth - a tinge of carbonation keeps it from getting heavy. I could drink more of this than I probably should - it’s heavy, but quite drinkable. Again, one of the best beers in any style if not the best I’ve ever had. Awesome.

bottle, pours a thick black, thin dark brown head. Dark cherry and prune fruit in the aroma, along with dark chocolate and tons of roasted maltyness. Smells nice. Bittersweet roasted malt that is full bodied and has a light carbonation that is nice on the tip of the tongue. Some chewy bitter cocoa and hops follow into a lingering bitter expresso finish. This is really top notch, and so easy to drink at 10.5. I’m a fan.

Wow, this is an excellent imperial stout. Pours as black as oil with a one finger brown head. Aroma of roasted grains, dried cherries and plums, a hint of cocoa, and piney hops. The flavor followed the aromas. The malts and grain taste up front with the dried fruit, cocoa, and coffee flavors all being bombarded with a ridiculous amount of bittering hops that attack your taste buds. This beer just really improves with time. Excellent!
