COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
One of the earliest examples of the Russian Imperial Stout in the United States, Expedition Stout offers immensely complex flavors crafted specifically with vintage aging in mind, as its profile will continue to mature and develop over the years. A huge malt body is matched to a heady blend of chocolate, dark fruits, and other aromas. Intensely bitter in its early months, the flavors will slowly meld and grow in depth as the beer ages.
Available October-March.

Please start export this to Sweden, Bells. Pours a thick black with a oily brown head. Flavour is packed with dark chocolate along with some smooth coffee notes, a bit of caramel and a hint of red berries. Medium-strong but smooth roastiness that follows through from the first sip to long after you’ve finished the beer. There’s a very quick notion of chocolatey sweetness before the roasty bitterness takes over completely and builds up itself. There is no alcohol in the flavour whatsoever, only a very slight warming sensation which makes this beer very drinkable. I still took over an hour to finish a 12 oz bottle but only because I wanted the goodness to last for as long as possible. Just a notch above almost every imperial stout I’ve ever tried.

Shared by Maakun at Maakun back from US tasting. Black with light tan head. Sweet roasted chocolate malts. Molasses, chocolate, sugar cane, heavy roasted note, almost coffee like. Toffee. Big sweet, medium bitter. Full body, sticky heavy slick body. Soft carbonation. Nice.

Bottle shared. Black with small beige head. Lots of dark chocolate, oats, molasses, some bitter coffee, dried leaves, lots of roasted notes with some licorice. Medium sweet and bitter. Full bodied with creamy feel. Great classic imperial stout, nicely balanced.

What a beer! 9 months old. Aroma of rich roasted malt, tons of dark fruit, coffee, and sweet chocolate. Incredible smooth taste of heavily roasted malt, sweet chocolate, brown sugar, and coffee. Mild coffee like bitterness. Huge thick coating mouthfeel. The taste lingers on the palate. Alcohol only present slightly with warming in the chest. World class. Typically I don't like RIS's but this one is incredible. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Amazing beer that ages well. This was a 2 year old bottle. Very smooth with great chocolate flavors. Full of rich stout characteristics without being overly heavy.

Flaska från Mikkeller Webbshop. Smak och doft av kaffe, choklad, vanilj, rostade toner, lakrits och karamell. Fin sötma, rund och len, bra balans mellan aromerna som avslutas med en fin beska.

UPDATED: AUG 9, 2016 From bottle, pour is dark syrupy thick and black in color. Sitting atop the beer the head is chocolate brown. The aroma is initially alcohol and dark chocolate there are further notes of coffee and a bright herb. The taste is alcohol initially followed by a milk chocolate taste and sweetness, then bitter dark chocolate and coffee. The body of the beer is very smooth with a medium to thick mouthfeel. Overall this beer is a very good stout has a strong alcohol body with very good coffee and chocolate flavors throughout the beer.

Bottle. Pours a rich, thick, motor-oil black with a high, fine-grained, creamy medium brown head; there is no light getting through that baby at ALL. Nose is amazing; coffee; black cherry, baking chocolate, pipe tobacco, port wine, cinnamon, brown sugar, and pumpernickel. Wow. On the tongue -- that is one of the smoothest, most elegant RIS I have ever had. Perfectly integrated, sweet without being cloying, velvety and rich, with a long, drier, smoky coffee finish. Damn near perfect.

Bottle. Black. Malty dark roasty, kinda dry roasty, some soy in the background, intense nose. Full bodied, dry woody heavy malty, english portery character. Long lingering motoroily finish, intense. Really nice clean, traditional ris. Tasty, sippery.

Yes it pours out black & seeming thicker than beer should be. The aroma not so scary, subdued . i smell black olives—is it just the color, a hint of vinegar/sour—everything else is sort of—coffee, alcohol hidden, a friendly version molasses. With flavor the roast malt and alcohol come to the forefront, dry molasses, a little sawdust. Smooth & thick.
