4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from the brewery. Pours a deep opaque black with a tiny bit of brown head that rings and makes intricate patters on the surface of the beer. Smell is distinctly an imperial stout, lots of malt smells, bready, figs, coffee, lots of dark fruit, and maybe a hint of brightness. Palate is thick bodied with a decent amount of carbonation. Taste is quite nice, a bit sweet at first, but then evolves into a very roasty note which spilts a bit in your mouth focusing more on a slightly bitter and yet fruity note. Aftertaste is long lasting and much like a good espresso, plus some alcohol heat you can feel a bit in your throat. Excellent example of the style!

4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Opaque pitch black with a smallish brown head and very nice viscous lace. Wonderful bittersweet chocolate and roasted coffee aromas with rich dark fruit and molasses. Chocolate and coffee stand out in the flavor profile, with subtle contributions from molasses, figs, chicory, booze and smokiness. Beyond full bodied, creamy silky smooth mouthfeel, minimal carbonation, and a decadently lush rich finish.

From a 12 oz bottle with date 08/22/14. Pours a thick, black color, with just the slightest deep brown highlights on the edges, and a dark brown, thin head, the darkest head I’ve seen to this point. Smells just chocolately, kind of roasted chocolate granola, just a little alcohol there. Taste is incredible. So chocolately, roasty, but that oatmeal is still there. I don’t believe they use oats in this, but I’m getting oats. And the mouthfeel is incredible. So luscious, full, smooth. I was blown away the first time I had this. One of the best standard imperial stouts available.
