COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
One of the earliest examples of the Russian Imperial Stout in the United States, Expedition Stout offers immensely complex flavors crafted specifically with vintage aging in mind, as its profile will continue to mature and develop over the years. A huge malt body is matched to a heady blend of chocolate, dark fruits, and other aromas. Intensely bitter in its early months, the flavors will slowly meld and grow in depth as the beer ages.
Available October-March.

Black with a finger of head that disappears completely. Fresh fluffy aroma very inviting, mildly sweet. Nutty flavor with floral bitterness that comes in waves. Not sweet at all as the aroma would lead you to think. Chocolatey bitterness remains on for a while. No frills, really rich and delicious example of the style.

Sporadic nougat colored foam. This stout is thick like oil, aroma of hard roasted malt, cocoa and some coffee. The taste is heavy and have a palate with both cocoa and coffee and a slightly roasted malt. Later evokes the taste a little licorice, figs and smoke. This is a very elegant and mellow, well-brewed stout which give time to long-term drinking. You should probably have tasted several stouts before embarking on this, for it is fierce and heavy. It is best to be enjoyed at room temperature, thus you get probably the most nuances in flavor. The alcohol at 10.5 can be tasted, but is saved well by way of the aforementioned elements. An Imperial Stout which is perfect if you like these heavy, rich and strong stouts.

UPDATED: MAY 3, 2016 Bottle at home. Pitch black colour with a medium, fast disappearing brown head. Nose of cocoa powder and slight roasted malts. Taste is medium to high bitzerness, also cocoa with some roasted malts. Some alcoholic warmth bit very well hidden. Silk smooth mouthfeel with just perfect carbonation. Wow.

Bottle from Beer Gonzo. Very dark brown with a lovely brown sugar coloured head. Doesn’t retain it for long. Body is full, creamy rather than oily, with the alcohol providing some chilli- like burn. More to the aroma than just coffee; I get figs, soy, dark chocolate, roasted malt and nut brittle. Flavour has lots of dark chocolate along with some licquorice and something slightly sweeter. Finish is hugely bitter, with lingering dark chocolate and coffee.

Taste is very intensive, roastiness, salt liquirice, coffee, some salt, balanced sweetness. Full bodied, not stickyness, low carbonation, smooth palate. Very powerful and intensive.
